Thereby creating a class system where lower players cant get more points because they are always playing lower players. We are talking about pixels on a game board, where your reward for finishing high rank is...pixels on a game board. People quit at the top all the time to get pixels on a game board. I quit playing TM because I played arena for the competition, not people targeting third place so they can keep second place and not try for first even though they could have won. I see a lot of people complaining they have to play everyone instead of people "on their level". A lot of complaining about losing elo because they have to play people to win points on a video game leader board, only to fall short and complain next season. Just play for the competition. Never mind, that's too high minded a concept for people who need imaginary rewards.
It's not about fear of losing Elo. It's about making the games fun. When a 700-800 Elo player faces a 100-200, they win 99% of the time, and most games are complete blowouts. It's just not very interesting. A proper Elo filter would fix this.
yah arena game quality gets worse and worse as time goes on, getting matched with 100-150 elo players who have a 25% win rate is a waste of time for everyone. And this is with elite-only filter. The fact there's a filter but you can still get matched with players in the bottom 10-20% of players is quite something.

A solution would be Arena ranking calibration ie if you dont play a game for 3 days you start to lose 10 points per day or whatever. Assume what you mean is get #1 by a margin and then just not play

No, it should. Because elo is not some kind of competition, like Arena is. Elo is an evaluation of your skill, and every game you play "for real" (that is not set to "let's not count this game" from the beginning, i.e. as "friendly", or that is not neutralized by agreement) should count.
Right, but this isn’t Chess. This is a game of wild variance and luck, as has been proven time and time again. Therefore, either eliminate the effect that Arena has on elo or create groups. Why support a structure that dis-incentivizes higher elos from playing?

Does what currently happening in the Arena, when Bogeyun, who had 1st place as long as I remember leaderboard in this season, now in 21 place just in one day, proving that this game is just random? look at his game history, he lost even to player with 100+ ELO. Yeah, maybe it is some kind of muly account of skilled player, I haven't watched the game replay itself.
But cmon, is this some common thing to happen? :) So, what is the tactic? to play as much games as possible, to try your luck with the cards, and hope some other good player will be less lucky than you in 90 days? :)) man, look how many games he is playing (compared to me ofc) :))
Well this didn't age well.

(Congrats to Bogeyun)

Arena rank goes up, then down, then up again. The variance of TFM precludes anyone from reaching 2400 Arena points - I think the champion usually has around 2000 or 2100? So, trying to end the season at the peak of an upswing is the way to go.

Congratulations to Bogeyun for reaching the top at least twice during the season, and finishing on top.
