Hello all,

I think the forum moderators shared that 'talking about youtube videos' is allowed on this forum; if not then feel free to delete this post. I am 'necro'ing this thread as it was featured in a youtube video (if you want to find it, look for a pacifier of threads on there).

In any case, the video is informative as well as the results.

Anyone who watches the video and game(s) and wants to discussed, I think it could be an interesting discussion. Those of us, including the participant(s) of the game, that are interested in ad hominen attacks on people; you are welcome to your opinion but many of us, or maybe just me, find it pointless and a waste of time.

For example, I was surprised some generations the player who eventually won (the game in the video, and most of the series of (12, 13? 15?) games) held on to so much MC for so long. Many turns he had prod cards (like a city? urban area?) or such that had he played earlier in the turn cycles would have produced more MC and resources.

Of course, that player won (and Kudos to him! he also seems to be a great sport nice person) so I am just looking to understand if most of the players who view that situation tend to favor holding onto the MC there. I am aware that holding on and playing an urbanized area later, for example, gives more flexibility; would 2-3-5 turns of MC prod not be worth playing it a bit earlier?

Thanks for reading and sharing thoughts.

If I have cards worth playing now, I play them. If not, I hold my money for the next generation. Starting each generation broke makes this difficult.

I only watched gen 1 so far - That's a difficult line, I think. Spending every dollar to get the card in play gen 1 - not even being able to use inventor's guild - and now being completely broke for the next draft. The 6 cards drawn from the prelude and the corporation were not great (though Ginat ice is certainly nice). I', thinking maybe Cheung-Shing and different preludes and perhaps different starting cards?

Also, you had EC. Clearly a better starting card than AI central. :)

Okay, gen 2 draft, I don't understand having media group and ending up with neither of the two space events. (Vesta shipyard was kept instead. Questionable. Then gen 3, lava tube instead of the Jovian multiplier. I am not seeing a plan here. Okay, opponent received the Jovian multiplier back, but didn't buy it. So, not going Jovians, but kept Vesta shipyard. 18 MC for titanium production and 1 VP.

Okay, I reviewed the entire game - I didn't see your cards; only your opponent's. I don't really understand your opponent's plays - seemed like somewhat random drafting and buying and card-playing without much of a plan. And way too many cards bought.

But, maybe the whole thing is above my pay grade.

Just looking at starting hand keeps it looks very questionable -- i'd definitely take CSM over inventrix and metals company over biolabs [and also TG]. it's a great example of how people over-value draw and cards like ai.
On this discussion, not to any particular person, AI is a great card that can feel super strong. Saying it is the single card that decides games is borderline absurd. we have plenty of cards like marsu, earth cat, AGT, viral, eco zone, GIA, Deimos, NRA, insects etc that i've heard described as op and game ending

Yeh I would go metals power gen CSM, plenty of draw with guild/contacts, just get econ + electro cat going and play AI later.

Just pointing it out cuz this is a strong player, gen 1 AI, they even find -9 on space with Media (-12 on space events) and still lose pretty handily. I felt fairly confident gen 1 ai wasn't an issue, get a bit nervous later with quantum/mass but cuz they skipped nitrogen and joves were all cut they have no real way to score in the end game.

Obv i get some good cards too (most notably EC) but it's not like i have some absurd OP setup

With almost 600 ELO, that's not a “horrible player”. They might have squandered this one game but they do win their fair share of games.
Therefore I agree with Bogeyun that this is a perfect example of overvaluing AI, thinking it's the be-all-end-all, when it, in fact, isn't.

This 'horrible player' is the same elo as you!! This game they definitely didn't play that well or close to their rank (by hugely overvaluing AI), so it's probably not a good reflection of their skill, but let's not pretend they are bad =]

And while they did go the wrong corp/opener, imagine a world where their other corp is phobolog, and their other preludes were ecoexperts/excentric, and playing Inventrix/biolab/gen1 AI was the correct opener - you can see how it's not some insta-win scary card.
