Static Teams for Tournaments (after initial randomization)

Post by ResonanceSM »

I would like to make a suggestion for games where people play as teams. I think it would be fun/interesting to randomize teams initially, but then allow for an option to keep them static for the remainder of the tournament.

There are ways that an organizer can help weed out or eliminate cheaters, and besides it's an option that you don't have to pick if you don't want it. Tournaments are voluntary, so you don't have to play if you don't want.

What are those, other than hosting private tournaments?

That would be the biggest way, maybe reputation limits? I don't remember if an organizer can kick people before the tournament starts...

They cannot. At least not in a public tournament. That would be ripe for abuse.

I've never run a private tournament, so I don't know if the answer differs for those.

Either way, if you randomize the initial teams, it should help mitigate some of that. I just think it would be fun to be able to stick together as a team and build some repoire during a tournament. There are some games where being on the same wavelength or at least knowing play style is really helpful.
