How do you disable friend notifications?

I joined a bunch of async tournaments and have been having a lot of trouble following the games because the game log is filled with notifications of when my friends logged on and off. Does anyone know if there's a way to disable these?

It is a longstanding user request. I think the unofficial browser extension allows them to be hidden: https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=30509
