Is it for real? This is very sad and likely I'll be done with this site.

Haven't played the old version in a long time, what would make your top 3 list for why it's better than the new version?

you can still play the old version though, right? I just started a game to test it. Think it means they just won't be updating it anymore, which if its been working fine for 5 years doesn't seem like a big deal
Re: Old version is not supported anymore?
The most reason are the symbols. The old version has names on it and with one look you see which card in the next stage you can play for free or which card you need to play this card for free. The cards of the new version only have symbols, there are sometimes 3 symbols on it. You cant play the game any more, because you are only checking symbols. this is so bad and makes no fun to play.
The building costs of the wonder stages and cards are a matter of habit, maybe. But as i remember some building costs exspecially of the wonder stages are quite... strange? stupid? hard to explain.
The extensions are also useless, they destroy the balancing of the game. and thats the reason i play 7wonders, i have never seen a such balanced game for 3 or more players.
And you can discuss about layout and grafic, but in my opinion the new version looks cheap.

Funny how I disagree with everything !! But that's the beauty of such rich and honorable board games I suppose.Newtreuti wrote: ↑16 October 2025, 21:09 The most reason are the symbols. - My experience with the symbols is the exact opposite of yours : they're very easy to recognise once you make the minimal effort to memorize them, where the old ones required you to read, which costs much more energy. I think you're just used to it, that's all. The new version is just more logical, it's modern design.
- The costs have been rebalanced. It's not perfect, but as discussed here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXZND4aG1Lk , it's overall for the better if you analyse it. Maybe what you find stupid or strange is what got seriously nerfed because it was too strong before, like Alexandria night.
- Most expansions I agree, even though sometimes the general chaos of Leaders/Cities (not here yet) is pretty fun for casual playing, which should not be forgotten. Of course, not suited for arena, though. BUT (big but) Edifices doesn't destroy anything ! Is shifts the balance but there is a lot of skill involved, especially at 3 players (other counts are a bit odd). You should try it. As for Armada, I didn't play it enough so I'm holding my judgment.
- A matter of taste, but man, old edition seems so ugly to me now, with this annoying lateral band and leaning words on it, fat points symbols... Everything cries "I'm old and tired". I don't miss it at all, even if my old box is still there for collection (and maybe for selling in a few years when it's getting rare...)
That being said, I understand your anger. I don't get this decision (and I just checked : it definitely seems locked, not updated but not maintained either) which excludes an important part of the fanbase. It may be a software thing since BGA is not known for their tech performance, to say the least. If other expansions are in preparation, then I imagine they couldn't cope with two versions anymore. I don't know. It is quite sad though.
Re: Old version is not supported anymore?
First Editorial objectively better in several key ways. This is an incredibly disappointing change.
