12 Turns Hoarding but the game still continue?

I just played this terrible game, my opponent hoarding all 5 critical gems, meanwhile I'm stuck with just taking 3 coins and discard 3 coins for 12 turns straight, and my opponent is perfectly fine and get out with a win.
If this issue is still here without further fix, I think I'll quit this game forever.

I had the same experience, almost died from boredom. The player rank was more than 500 and after the game i could tell why: his opponents probably died from the most boring game of their lifetime. Also, when i expressed my feeling about the disaster of the play, that person found audacity to threaten me with reporting, even though i never used any form of disrespectful language. the only game i'm regretting playing. I'm fine with losing, actually i've learned so much from other players since i can't play physical game with many different people, all the experience i have so far, i've gained from people i'm playing here. Even thought that person was hoarding the all the gems (3 gold and 2 pearl), the player decided to give me an unsolicited advice to "help me", which felt like mocking tbh. I do not enjoy these kind of playing. i'd rather play with people who's only reason to play is winning no matter what.

The rule about holding 3 gold and 2 pearls is explained here. If you are claiming that someone was able to exceed the limit, then report it as a bug.

Thank you, I really appreciate your reply. I'm fine with losing too, I just don't want to suffer just by playing this game. There are so many amazing games on BGA that I enjoy playing. Maybe I'll play again physically with some friends but with house rule that bans the hoarding 5 completely. Otherwise I'll never play again.
Yeah and I got reported too, -30% karma, then I got those karma back quickly by some games of Wingspan, Splendor, Heat, Wolves, Ark Nova... now back to 100% karma again. Absolutely terrible experience.

He didn't exceed limit, but he did 2 things:
- play the pearl and prepare to play the rob right after I take the pearl, so I never have the chance to play the pearl.
- play the gold for extra turn card so he take back the gold immediately.
I'm aware that BGA rule support this style, so I can't complain any further, I just quit.

It really is miserable gameplay, sucks all the fun out of it. When I encounter a hoarder, after the game I always mark "Do not play with this player again" and in the notes write "Hoarder". That helps me, but not other players. We can't do it on here, but I was thinking of creating a reddit thread where players can list encounters with hoarders and we can track/ list the red flag players to help other players know who is one. IDK if anyone would be interested but it was just a thought.

Hello, as a new player, I do not understand why you cannot win if you don't get access to gold or pearl. There are some good level 3 cards that you could buy with regular gems aren't there? And if your opponent targets this cards too, why can't you buy a level2 card to improve your resources?

I just encountered my first hoarder and stopped playing. I hadn't realized it was an endemic problem. A house rule I might suggest is that you cannot claim victory until you have purchased all of the cards in your reserve. I don't know if this would hamper all hoarding, but it would probably speed up the rate at which hoarders would have to divest and focus on a more direct strategy as opposed to blocking techniques.

I wouldn't call it a strong strategy, it's a hollow tactic that severely limits gameplay and fun for both sides. It strikes me as players who are insecure about winning through strategy, so they resort to restricting the game state. For some, winning is more important than fun. Not why I play games or who I desire to play games against.
