BGA is pretty dead on finding players automatically

Post by DUS_RS »

Hello everyone,

BGA claims to have several million players or registered users. That's great.

Then player matches in the very popular games should also be quick and easy to set up.
Unfortunately, for about three months now, this has been nothing more than wishful thinking.

You get shown waiting loops (no matter which mode you want to play in) that are really beyond
any reasonable limits. It's just impossible.

So either BGA doesn't have anywhere near the number of registered users or players that appear
on the homepage, or their search algorithms are completely beyond any programming skill.

This is boring and probably not in the interest of the site operators either.
Boring, non-functional, and silly.
Best regards,
DUSRASTA

This thread seems pretty silly, you seem to have played multiple games today.

"...for about three months now..." is an odd statement to read in a post from an account that seems to have bene created ... today.

Why are the "joined" dates nonsense? The OP has played 1000+ games!

Their account was formed in April: "Member since 2025-04-29"

I believe the forum "joined" date is the date of your first post.

They finished turn-based games that were started a couple days ago.

This doesn't mean there are millions of players connected all at once. Right now there are only 14K. Also, it's not clear if you are talking about real-time or turn-based games. Regardless, just because a game is "popular," that doesn't mean that the variant you choose is popular.

My experience playing several games of Splendor (a fairly popular game) two days ago was that the game filled nearly instantaneously, and that was with an Elo filter active.

Oh wow, I did not expect that all 8 Yahtzee games they finished today were from the same turn-based tournament. Think that's the first time I've ever checked a profile at the end of something like that happening, lol.

Seeing as how Yahtzee is finishing games in a rate that's measured in multiple per minute, it's definitely got plenty going on. In light of your previous comment about turn-based, the time control is a leading candidate for potential pairing headaches in my mind.

I am happy that I started this discussion with my post. And even if it only attracts
