Can you really be any good in this without memorizing all the routes?

There is a very simple way to fix this: play with the 1912 expansion and Mega Europe rules.

This was the Arena ruleset last season. When the Arena reverted back to base game rules, I noticed how flawed the base game is without that expansion. Too few tickets, too much emphasis on taking the 6- and 8- sections, too important to rush the end.

1912 and Mega Europe fix this by giving you a lot more tickets to pick from and more tickets at the beginning of the game — enough to make it incredibly hard to even try to memorize. Giving players more tickets to start also causes them to become more concerned with making their tickets than with blocking yours. And, because it’s much harder to fit in the 6- and 8-sections into the complex route you have to make to efficiently complete all your tickets, the competitive edge becomes fishing for MORE TICKETS rather than rushing the game end.

I don’t know how much of this is just me, but I think these changes make the game infinitely more enjoyable.

Now I dropped off of the Arena and I’ve been playing regular 2p games with 1912 and Mega Europe. Thankfully, I can still find matches quick. Seems like lots of people are on this boat. You’re welcome to join.

Hello, sorry my request is not related to the main subject, but how do you place a train station on the application when you play at the Europe version?

Kinda, but personally I never sat down and "studied" them. Just by playing little by little they stuck in my mind. If you don’t play those silly expansions that add random tickets and make a big mess, the 30 base objectives are very easy to learn just by playing

edit: sorry, this is Europe forum, I thought it was USA. Similarly to what Cournot and Drakestorm said, in Europe I'm 580 Elo and I am nowhere close to know all the tickets. Of course you have to know the long tickets, since every player gets one of them at the start, but those are just 6, can't be hard. Advice about silly expansions still applies.

Just click on the location itself. It then asks you to confirm.
