How to play Hofstadterians?

Post by Starwarrior1128 »

I'm playing the dayside of the tribe card. Sure I get I should build next to water spaces, but that doesn't seem like a great ability (especially if other players have built there before you). If there anything more that I'm not getting? Any tips?

Sun side is much better than moon side. Hof tribal ability is really strong in a long game. Everything else is not great. Best in a longer game, and it is simple-try to nab the yellow tech that cost a food for activating tribe ability. Explore toward water spaces, of course, make 6+ resources. Find ways to trigger without costing an action and you can produce resources, explore and build on same turn. In a short game, it is the same, but you have less time for patience. Don’t sacrifice a good spot for a perfect spot. You might gamble in a long game and play a little slower to set up 3 or 4 big turns late.

I think you've misunderstood some rules, why would it matter if others have built next to water tiles? Nothing about the tribe is affected by other player's buildings...

I think this was mis-played. Other players have no effect on you building next to water and getting the benefits.

As for their power overall, it takes a little time to get going so their ability is stronger later in the game

I meant if other players have built near the water tiles and so you can't.

Focus on building in the begin, don't populate too much , unless you can populate 2 times very fast, for the right path to get the 1 discount.
Using your buildings and explore , build a path to the big cities.
Using your ability to get the bonus from numerous waters.
Use your left path population populate in the late period of game.
It's not a good faction, but as a resource faction, it also have a win rate.

In spite of what others have said, the moon side is better.

While it might seem nice to get 3+ resources from your star power, you won't be able to build next to 3+ lakes until the midgame.

The moonside lakehouse at least allows you a tool you can use in the earlygame.

Furthermore, their population track sucks on both sides due to their first power being very underwhelming. However, the moon side +2 range is actually very good. Much better than the sun side discount. Still, not a books tribe.

Hope the lakes are good and try to build towards them.

Overall I'd have to say they're likely the weakest faction in the game.

Something I’ve observed about Hofstadterians recently is that their easy (albeit inefficient) access to crystals through their first technology makes it so they can leverage various crystal payoffs (yellow machine, devotion slot modules) better than some other factions. Doesn’t bring them up to the power level of other factions but it’s a strategy I’ve seen work.
