<50% lockdown concerns

Post by Ceaseless »

If a player is outplayed in Splendor such that they are unable to play the game, leaving the rest as solitaire, they should be able to concede. But if this happens when the game's "progression" (made up nonsense that has little to do with actual game development) is below 50%, despite the game being functionally over, they end up being forced to quit and lose reputation. The alternative is to sit through what is a very slow but inevitable defeat as their opponent has absolute control over the board for as long as they maintain lockdown. I've seen it done both ways, a player that sits through the whole thing and a player that quits. It would be nice for a player to be able to concede without losing karma.

My friend once faced an opponent who had built a huge lead within just 20 moves. My friend was almost certain of defeat but couldn't concede. What was most infuriating was that when my friend urged the opponent to move faster, the opponent deliberately dragged out every single move until the very last second , then proceeded to insult my friend by saying it was “easy game.”   :x :x :x

I suspect given BGA's relatively harsh chat penalties they probably could have gotten hit for that.

I just had another such game. This one chose to get timed out after weathering it for a bit. Really sucks to be in their position, since I'm making my plays to establish a winning board while making sure there's no chance of counterplay to ruin it, but I'd be happy to accept resignation and save us both the trouble.

The percentage of elo for a leaver is stupid. I had 10. I had 5 reserved and was about to win... then the person rage quit before my turn and I got only 53%... Really? 10 points and about to buy 5 and I get 53?

Yeah, I don't get that at all. Quitting above 50% should award full ELo. The opponent could have just conceded, and you would get full ELo. This makes no sense.
