If my ELO is 140 for the moment, why do I always get opponents with ELO of 500+? It is kinda weird to keep losing games with such powerfull opponents. I remember last season I got a game with #1 ranking player and I was ranked #1047.

It's best not to exaggerate in a forum about publicly available data, because eventually someone will check to see if you are being accurate. In your last 20 arena games, 9 out of 20 of your opponents had Elo under 500. 7 out of those 9 were under 400 and 5 out of of those 9 were under 300. There were even 3 under 200.

So ignoring the part about how strong your opponents "always" are, the simple answer is that neither Arena nor regular games filter by Elo by default. In regular games you can add an Elo filter if you want, but it doesn't carry over to Arena.

Sample bias could also be at play. It could be that stronger players prefer Arena and weaker players don't. So the Arena player pool would be stronger on average than the overall player pool if that is true.

Ok. Most of the times. Even so, I did not said I won over all the 500+, but the other way arround -- I mostly lose. Again, a 50% rate of 500+, another 20% 400+, another 10% 300+, another 10% 200+ and only 10% under 200 (with my ELO 140+/-) it still very hard to call it a even/balanced match.
Yes, the harder opponents you have the more you learn, but it should be the other way arround -- 50% of players of your skillz/ratingz and harder opponents to give you some challengers.
If you sign in at a boxing club they don't throw you into the ring with the class champions.

You can exaggerate about other things besides winning. Just because you didn't say you won doesn't mean you weren't exaggerating.

I simply stated facts about how the matching works. I did not say I liked it. I did not say I disliked it. If you personally don't like it, go to the bugs/suggestions database and submit a proposal to change matchmaking. Talking about it here won't do anything. Submitting it there probably won't either, but it will go from a 0% chance to maybe 0.1%.

But you completely ignored the possibility that there may simply be fewer people to match you with to make it even/balanced. So do you want to have even matches but also have to wait 10 minutes that match to be found?

Because elo is irrelevant for Arena. Except that you need a minimum of 100 to enter, but since once you reach 100 you can never go below, this is pretty much irrelevant too.

You didn't sign in at a boxing club. You joined a competition open for everyone (well, at least with elo 100) where you can be matched with anyone. You don't have to play Arena if you don't want to.

Erm, there’s actually a possibility to do something about that. Via the gear icon (Play now tab, set mode to Arena, the gear icon is in the right of every game box cover) and advanced settings. The way I understand it (not sure), it refers not to Elo, but to Arena level, but the outcome is similar. If you’re somewhere in the middle, your preference concerning better players is automatically the same for worse players, so it’s only about how far away someone is from your own level.

This is a good thought, but It's really not similar, because high rated players can be in any tier, either through relegation at the beginning of a season, or they sat out a season or two, or because they have just started playing Arena and they are bronze or working their way up from bronze. Of course, there is some correlation between the Arena tier and the strength of the player, but it's not a strong as people think. And it's likely not as strong as it needs to be to get what the OP wants, which is some vaguely defined mix of mostly equal strength players and an occasional strong player.

If OP wants to granularly define the strength of their opponents, they need to do that outside of Arena.

I know that ELO does not count, but most probably what counts is the player experiențe (number of plays).
I also don't think that are that few that play in Arena mode.
Why do I write here? Mostly because I want to know the oppinion of other players.

Is there any ranking or leaderboard for elo? In the same way there is for arena? If not, is there any point to pushing elo, besides getting 100 to play in arena?

There is no ranking by ELO. It is a marker for how good You are at a game. În PLAY mode it is used for fair game opponents selection. Not in ARENA mode.
