Animal Requirement

Post by xandepl »

Hi, how are you?

I'm new to Ark Nova and I don't understand why this player was able to play the Jaguar card if he didn't have the partnership with America.

I assumed it was because he had a research symbol, but in another game of mine, I had the research symbol and didn't have the partnership (Asia) to play the Indian Peafowl card, and the game wouldn't let me place the animal. Could someone explain, please?

Your opponent is playing on the research institute map. He has the space in the lower left connected, so he can ignore one prerequisite for a card. You are not playing on that map, so you can’t ignore prerequisites on the card. If you’re referring to the science symbol
from a university: it has nothing to do with all of that. Also note that both animal in question don't need a partner zoo (handshake symbol) but just one of the respective continent icons. I recommend to read or reread both the rules and the appendix, you might have more misconceptions.

A side note, just FYI: Jaguar does NOT, in fact, require an American zoo. Jaguar simply requires a single American *icon* to be on your board. A zoo will fill this criterion, but so will any previously played American animal, or the Expert on the Americas sponsor. When a specific zoo is required, the requirement icon will look like a handshake instead.
