Timer option

Post by MeninoMonstro »

Playing in this platform can be frustrating for me, people abuse the timer system to min/max every play and then this is usually my game exp:

Thinking time 50:03 23:00

It’s pretty self explanatory. A game that SHOULD take 1h tops, takes 2h.

The issue:
People abuse the fact that in some games they can do some meaningless action to get +1-2min of extra time. So they exhaust their time and then resets it by doing a meaningless action and repeat again and again. What we get? A game where only one player plays because I’m not willing to min/max every play nor abuse the timer like that.

Suggestion:
There’s a reason chess has a fixed amount of time for a match. We need that. Players like me just want to play casually, I don’t mind making some moves that aren’t perfect, but I do mind wasting 2h watching people abuse this system. It can be a frustrating experience. Give us this option. People who don’t want to play in this mode just don’t.
If you allow me I could even do the coding.

I think that’s a valid point! You guys could add a new time option in the settings, where people can choose between “Slow,” “Normal,” “Fast,” and “Fixed.” That way, only those who share the same preference would use it!

FIDE Laws of Chess taking effect from 1 January 2023
increment: An amount of time (from 2 to 60 seconds) added from the start before each move for the player. This can be in either delay or cumulative mode.

🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ chess was just a simple example… Even if it was true and chess only had the increment timer rule that doesn’t invalidate my main point: we should have a different timer option that isn’t exploitable like that.

Variants:
• Pure fixed time (e.g. 60|0): no extra time per move.
• Increment (Fischer), written e.g. 90+30: you get 30 seconds added to your clock after each move is completed.

So please, if you want to disagree the least you could do is offer arguments against my point, not just post some random manual book

Making objectively false statements in service of your point does your argument a disservice. I can't tell if you knew it was incorrect, or figured people would let it slide. It was not a "random" manual. It was the rules promulgated by the international governing body of the game you cited.

There are already threads with people asking for "blitz" time settings on BGA.

I don’t care about chess stop diverting the discussion

This is the fallacy you are trying to use to ignore the topic of the post:

Obs.: saying the only timer rules in chess that are valid are the ones determined by “international blablah” is like saying that soccer can only be played by professionals

SOMEONE MUST CLOSE * THEY DONT FOLLOW INTERNATIONAL RULES IN ALL GAME MODES!!!!

*Moderator edit: please do not specifically name other gaming platforms

Read the part again where I told you this concept you have is not novel.

It isn’t novel. No one is making that claim.

But it’s not an available feature LOL

I’m suggesting adding that feature in the suggestion forum…

Why is that hard? LOL
