GRAY 5 option NEEDED to bring players back on BGA Downfroce

Post by SamLT »

I have noticed fewer and fewer players playing downforce and while the downforce players are often diehards the random play takes away legitimate strategy and turns the game in to simply a bookie game with secret bets. Nothing wrong with that but better to play Lucky Numbers in that case.

I have thought about this a lot. The integrity of the bet should be who you actually think may win the game, not who you are going to secretly pick (or screw up) and use all your gray cards to help another specific player win the race.

If a player uses his cards to move another car with his colors or gray 2's or even 3's fine, no problem. But to use their gray 5's to literally help another player, and let's be real now, that just turns the whole game into slop. Downforce gurus get into a game at random like that fine, but when it is over and over it chases downforce players away so we have fewer and fewer.

My PROPOSAL would be reaching out to BGA to SIMPLY put in an OPTION that prevents a player from using a gray 5 to move a color that is not theirs. If the computer guys don't know how to do that, fine this is a mute point. But personally I think being able to have that option for players would bring more players and not discourage players that want to play a more strategic game.

You need to reach out to whoever owns the rights to this digital implementation of the game (usually the publisher, but not always).
BGA cannot implement your house rule without their permission.

They have made some odd options for other games. May I see where you get this information that they cant?

OBLIGATION OF THE LICENSEE
5.1 Licensee uses the official rules of the Game. If Licensee wishes to make an unnofficial variant
available, approval from the Licensor will be sought before doing so. Source
The Licensor in that paragraph is the person or entity who "holds all Intellectual Property Rights granted on the Game (including all Game’s Asstes [sic]) and is the sole legal and beneficial owner of the Intellectual Property Rights necessary for the development and distribution of the Application." (Para. 9.1) The Licensee in that paragraph is BGA, or formally, AD2G Studio SAS. So changes like removing the powerful birds in Wingspan or making a special rule about hoarding pearls in Splendor Duel all had to be approved by the rights holder.

What examples of "odd options" are you referring to?
