Recommended for real time play ?

Post by Phoxtrot »

When opening the game page, there is a red banner saying it is recommended to play it in real-time mode.

I don't understand this because this game plays very well in turn-based mode.
Sure there are relatively many small decisions but it's still reasonable and, most importantly, most of them can be made simultaneously.

So sure, this game plays well in real time mode but so does most games, I don't think that this one requires it more than the "average" game.

I was thinking the same and was looking for this kind of reaction.
Since our turn-based BGA group favors games with simultaneous turns, I would have thought RftG to be a good choice.

With currently 770 ongoing turn-based games (and 9 real-time), I am not sure this banner is relevant.

This is actually observer bias as the turn-based games stay around longer. More than 90% of games happen in real time mode. So to find other players it's faster to play real-time.
However I concur that the turn-based mode works fine too and the wording could be adjusted.

Most likely the recommendation for "real time" for this game is the typical game length in real time being very short. Usually less than 10 minutes.

I'm sure it works fine in turn-based - which is how I play most of my other games - but for RFTG, I see little benefit. I'll just lose my train of thought and forget what my plan was.
