Losing ELO on abandoned game

Is this intended? I lost ELO for an abandoned game. Seems it registered current points for scoring. I had a late game strategy and would have accrued many points in late rounds so I guess it made me lose to a bunch of people. https://boardgamearena.com/15/cartogra ... =757897637

It counted as a tie for you with 10 other players. If this was an actual 11-way tie, then you would lose ELO to lower rated players (as you are expected to beat them), just not as much as for a loss.

This exact problem used to be an issue with many similar complaints, until at some point they changed the calculation so that in an abandoned game, players who did not abandon the game can never lose ELO, instead they get 0 change. I have no idea why you still lost ELO despite this, it is definitely a bug.

Also, the details don't add up in any case, if you sum the individual negative scores for the other 10 players, the total is not as bad as what you actually lost.

As far as I can count, there are 3 different reasons why ELO shouldn't be exchanged for tied placements.

Abandoned games.
Team mates in team games.
Shared winner/loser placement games like Not Alone and Lewis & Clark.

Over time these issues have been a minefield. Difficult to know it's a bug(s), oversight or planned chaos.

You have filed a bug for the volunteer developers to look at. They're not BGA employees. They have zero access to anything to do with elo, so they are unable to help you.

This is a site issue. As a developers of several games, I've seen a sudden uptick in these reports over the past two days. I can't do anything to fix it. People with elo issues need to contact BGA directly, rather than file bugs for the developers of the individual games.

If the bug is filed for a particular table (i.e. "About a game, and it happened at table #") then it will flow through to the maintainers of that particular game. The individual game adaptations on BGA are almost universally implemented by independent volunteers/freelancers.

When you file a site ticket (i.e. "About the website in general (not related to a game", although it should really say, "not related to a particular game" or something) then it's addressed to BGA itself, meaning people who actually work for BGA.

The primary difference, besides that the former are volunteers, is that game developers only have access to the game's code. We can change the behavior of a game, but not of the website nor its treatment of the game. For instance, we can fix a rules issue, but we can't change the timer. We can change a visual bug with the way a card is displayed, but not the whether you got an email telling you its your turn. And, of course, threatening to cancel your membership if we don't fix your bug or use your suggestion is rather pointless, even if it happens fairly frequently.

I think I made that exact same mistake today. Seeing an issue occur with something site related, but at a specific table, so when I see the options, I click on the one about a particular table, since that seems more aligned with the issue in question, not knowing it changes who it is sent to.

Just to be clear, the game was not "abandoned" by all players agreeing to abandon it, it was cancelled or interrupted by a player quitting/being expelled.

Something odd is happening with BGA.

In the Terraforming Mars forums, we have bene getting reports of player receiving no Elo when an opponent abandons the game at 100% completion.
