Why is there no live scoring?

Post by Riue_Prime »

Curious why there is no live scoring for a game that doesn’t have any unknown information. Seems like it’s important to know this when deciding to end the game or not.

I mean, it's not like this game has an immutable score you could rely on. The value of terrains can change throughout the game, and the value of animals is not real until the player has actually placed them. So, if a live scoring existed, it would be quite misleading and you would be better off doing the math by yourself anyway.

There is a suggestion to add live scoring, that you can vote for:
https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=136585

The suggestion is open since September 2024, and even so it is the second most voted suggestion, the developers did not even comment on it.

There is another suggestion regarding live scoring:
https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=130204

The developer commented: „The publisher and I decided to not do this to keep it close to the real experience“. So, that is the answer, why there is no live scoring.

For a game with 3 or more players, whether real-time or turn-based, I think being able to see running scores of your opponents (and yourself) would add some depth to this game. Because thwarting is obviously possible, but you need to do the tedious calculations yourself to figure out whom you should thwart. I'd prefer if this implementation of Harmonies would follow other BGA implementations such as Kingdomino and Wingspan, where the server provides all players with a running tally of every player's score (based on public information) even though in the physical game, scores are not formally calculated until the end.
