Probably anything popular+cooperative or with random teams: Hanabi, Tichu, Bang, Hearts (for some definition of "teams")... Or with high randomness (I guess there will be lots of "not fair", "you're cheating", "this game's rigged"): Can't Stop, Yahtzee... And let's not forget the "people who block ruin the game for others, who just want to enjoy the game" mantra: Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne, Catan, Azul...

You summed up BGA pretty well all with one post. 10/10. No notes.

Easy answer. Hearts and spades.

Because, frankly, most player are absolutely terrible at these games.

Hanabi ????????????

Can't players just use the chat to win every game ???????

I'm assuming this is a joke, because it would defeat the whole point of the game.

But the toxicity in Hanabi comes in the form of people having clue conventions, similar to the bidding conventions in contract bridge, and if you aren't privy to this code and mess something up you get berated and/or people immediately propose to abandon the game.

Not a joke. I don't play Hanabi on here (Seems pointless; for me, that's an "in person" game). But I've viewed profile of players who seem to win every time, which seems a bit suspect.

Using the chat would only defeat the purpose if the purpose for those players is to win honestly. If their purpose is to just complete the 5s of each color, then it would not defeat their purpose at all.

Yes, to me, that would be a pointless waste of time, but apparently people do all sorts of similar nonsensical things, thus giving us several annoying situations that are a nuisance to the honest players (such as Elo decay when winning a 3rd game against a same opponent).

Can't you just talk to each other IRL to win every time?

There are several co-op games that are like this, where you could easily "cheat" to win. In fact, that's probably true of most games - when you agree to play, you're essentially agreeing to a social contract to follow a certain set of rules and see how you do against those rules. The difference is that most games are competitive, and the other players won't agree to break the rules to facilitate your winning by miles at their expense. When the game is co-op and everyone wins or loses together, well...

When I was a kid I would play board games with myself fairly often (my siblings were a fair bit older, and often not interested in playing with me, or not even home, as they were teens when I was still quite small). I'd set up several players, roll the dice for them, etc. But I'd always have one player that was really "me" and I'd usually cheat to make that player have the ideal game. Since all the other players were also me, they were happy to allow it.
