動物カードは、１枚１種？

ハーモニーズの大きな魅力の１つ、カードの絵柄についての疑問。
日本語書き込みで大丈夫でしょうか？

動物カードは基本的に１枚に１種類の動物が描かれているようですが、エイのカードだけ２種類の動物が描かれているようなのが気になっています。

黒地に白い模様はポルカドット・スティングレイだと思いますが、褐色のエイはモトロでしょうか？　それなら２種類の動物が描かれていることになります。
ポルカドット・スティングレイの幼魚は褐色らしいので、成体と幼体が描かれている可能性もありますが、幼体なら水玉模様に加えて亀甲模様も入るそうです。それを省略・デフォルメしたのか、最初からモトロを描いたのか、どちらなんでしょう？

I'm pretty sure the creators intended for each card to represent only one animal. If some animals look different, it's probably because they are supposed to be the baby of the animal in question. If they seem inaccurate to real life, then that's probably a mistake, or just an artistic liberty from the creators.

One interesting tidbit is that the number of animals you can place from each card exactly corresponds to the number of animals you can see on the card. I found that really cool when I realized it (although it can be hard to see on some cards as some animals are very small or hidden).

面白い情報をありがとうございます。描かれた動物の数と配置可能なキューブの数、じっくり見比べて鑑賞してみるのが楽しみです。

褐色のエイはモトロではなくポルカドット・スティングレイの幼魚だとする考え方にも説得力がありますね。ただ、あと一つだけ可能性を考えるなら、「言語によっては２種類の動物が同じ種類の動物とされることもあるかもしれない」ということです。
例えば、日本語では猪と豚は別々の種類の動物とされますが、国や地域によっては「野生動物か家畜かが違うだけで、同じ種類の動物」とされます。カモとアヒルもそうですね。

ポルカドット・スティングレイとモトロも、国によっては同じ淡水エイとして１種類の呼び方なのかもしれないと思いました。皆さんのお国ではいかがですか？

In France, the country this game originates from, the animals you cite are certainly considered different animals, but I don't think most people are familiar enough with rays to think of them as different types of animals (or maybe I'm just ignorant about rays).

It may be different in Japan, where the ray may hold more cultural importance.

日本でも、ほとんどの人は淡水エイについて知りません。僕もハーモニーズがきっかけで、水族館まで動物カードの実物を見に行って知りました。

ところで、「カードに描かれた動物の数はゲームでおけるキューブの数と同じ」という仮説を確かめてみました。残念ながら、ハチ・コウモリ・ペンギンでは当てはまらないようです。
そしてルリコンゴウインコのカードも微妙です。ここでは確かに三羽の鳥が描かれていますが、そのうち１羽は真っ赤な影です。これはルリコンゴウインコというより、近縁種のベニコンゴウインコの絵柄といえそうです。つまりここでも「カード１枚には１種類の動物」という仮説が怪しくなります。

個人的な推理ですが、「１枚１種」とか「動物の数はキューブの数」という原則はあったものの、画家は最終的には絵的な面白さを追求し、周囲もそれを認めたということではないでしょうか？
この仮説は芸術を大切にする国、フランスにふさわしい気がします。そしていずれの仮説も、ハーモニーズについて語り合うのにはうってつけの話題ですね。

I think you're right that the artist took some artistic liberties with those general guidelines, although on all the cards the animals remain similar, and you can always tell which of the animals are supposed to correspond to the number of cubes (the fourth penguin is in the background isolated from the others, and the smaller bats and bees are the ones that don't count).

I guess the artist liked the added diversity and breaking the rules sometimes.
