Forest Shuffle: Scoring for animals on shrubs

Post by rungavagairun »

When playing with the woodland edge expansion or Dartmoor version of Forest Shuffle, there are shrubs that are similar to trees in that cards can be deployed on them top, bottom and sides. For scoring, they don't count as trees themselves, but animals that get deployed on them and score based on other animals that are deployed around "trees" also do not score. This is counter-intuitive in the game. For example, I played a doormouse, which typically scores 15 points when played opposite a bat. I can play it on a tree or a shrub. When I play it opposite a bat on a tree, I get the points, but on a shrub, even with a bat on the opposite side, no points are awarded. The Beech Martin is another example. The martins score 5 points for every fully occupied tree. But they are currently scoring no points for fully occupied shrubs.

I don't think Shrubs should count as trees when tallying points for sycamores or when you need 8 different trees for oaks to score. It's fine to treat them as not being trees when counting trees, but for animals that score based on other animal deployments, shrubs should be included.

See Table #766390748 for an example of doormouse not scoring.
