pilfer forced venom?

Wondering if this is a bug or intended...

• I first played Platypus and gave a venom token

• and then continued with Japanese Macaque and double pilfer

As a result

• my opponent decided to give me 2 x 5 money (which was within my expectations)

• and then had to pay 2 money for venom (which was surprising to me)

I could imagine that "getting pilfered" triggers a check along the lines of "taking an action (which has no venom counter on it) so you have to pay" ... but well, not sure if this is intended or not? (in any case - it was quite brutal )

That has to be a bug. I could not find anything in my manual rule book that would justify the "poison tick" after pilfering.

I must be missing something, but why is it surprising that playing an animal with a venom tag would dispense a venom token when played?

Definitely a bug. It looks like switching control to your opp to make the pilfer decision counted as a "turn" so the venom ticked. Definitely report that.

I'm curious what would happen if they couldn't afford the venom? would it make them give you a card? that's funny to think about.

Interesting.Maybe if you can't pay the pilfer,so it takes cards automatically,it doesn't count that as a turn for venom.Because if it did,and you couldn't pay the venom either,the game could seize up.

Yes but venom only takes its effect (making you pay money) at the end of each of your turns where you still have a token at the end of a turn. This person's opponent had to pay the money without taking their turn, (and I'm also assuming after taking their turn as well)
