Track Maps

Post by Powerminer55 »

Hey Guys, love the game and have it irl.
Just wondering where you got the designs for the tracks as they are like nothing I've ever seen and would love to get copies for my irl games too!
Love the work!

Hey Powerminer55,

There are licensing complications with existing tracks, I'm afraid. Asmodee is no longer publishing the game and so there are rights issues with the artwork; plus the licenses obtained for real-world tracks did not necessarily include digital rights which would be required for BGA.

To keep things simple from a licensing perspective, the decision was made to use new circuits (or new artwork, in the case of Monaco). Some of the new circuits are imaginery, some are real-world tracks where the digital rights have been obtained.

Any new tracks we roll out in future are likely to continue that pattern: the game is the same as your IRL copy (apart from a few rule improvements) but the tracks will be all-new. Sorry to disappoint!

Cheers,

I do get the 'complications', yet part of the fun is racing on historical tracks.

I have Formula D, all the tracks that were put out back then, but I also found a lot of 'player created' maps of *old* European tracks from the early days of racing (running through small villages and towns as well as fields) plus some others nobody is using anymore or before a track was changed. Those sort of options could be 'low hanging fruit' to still create historical tracks without much of a fuss.

I have one I blew up (Porto in Italy). That is an example. About the only IP-encrufted stuff on that map was a Google Earth background to setup the shape and proportions. That could be redrawn and make it different enough to make it no-IP-barrier.

I think the most epic track would be the full Nurbergring (sp) around the valley (compared to all large tracks I've seen). The original one was too small compared to other tracks I think.

Thanks for bringing my favourite car racing game to life again.

Ah that's fair enough. The BGA tracks are beautiful so my congrats to the art team who put them together, I guess I'll just have to play some extra games on here!

Thanks for your response!

I was wondering recently "WHY" all the artwork suddenly changed for Formula D from the alpha build. I understand now (from above) that the IP licensing issues has caused changes to the tracks and artwork.

Comments:
a. I find it funny BGA has the licensing for the game, but not the original tracks within the game.
b. I'm not a great fan of the stark new colour palette used. It now gives it a look more futuristic, cyberpunk, techno fusion vibe. I preferred the more mute tones of the original.
c. The game title on the box significantly obscures the "D." I'm not sure any new-to-the-game players would even know the "on fire" D was there.
d. I still struggle with some of the view controls.
e. I imagine some of the fan based Formula De tracks could be resurrected for future use?

Bog sur Rock island. Le chiffre 5 en bas est situé au mauvais endroit entre le virage golden gate et scarface.

I don't know where else to put this, and, admittedly, I didn't spend a lot of time searching for a better place: "turn 8" (Louis Chiron - Piscine) in the Monaco circuit says that the minimum is 9, but the board has a possible 8 movement.

Thank you for your time.
