need strategy hints in the help information

Post by fw_slim »

Apparently, according to the game designer, there are some strategy hints available for this game. However, this information was not made available in the help (rules) information pages. Especially, guidance is needed on the initial setup of the player cards. Game developers, PLEASE add the strategy hints to the game's help information pages.

Strategy tips are found on separate wiki pages which are shown only while actually playing.
The ones for QR are here.
They are also linked to from the rules overview now.

However that doesn't help a lot with setup. The opening theory is not very developed yet, so for beginners it's recommended to use the 🎲Randomized setup, as it is at least somewhat balanced.

I added a Strategy Primer to the rules section to help with the admittedly steep learning curve this game has.

The current strategy guide seems like a good start. With my early layman's approach to the game being ...

1) When possible play the game in pairs or groups of opposing suites and complementary cards. I.e

Ace of hearts/ 10 of Diamonds [Number defence or blocker]

King of hearts / 7 of diamonds [Jack defence]

Jack of Hearts / Queen of Diamonds/ 8's as cover for aces.

*Other combinations and groupings that work for you*

2) Solo sacrifice cards - At some point you might need to make a burst to the sacrifice point when putting a king at risk.

If you can throw away a 9 or something you don't need, you will still be in the game. If you don't you will probably lose.

3) Forcing your opponent to move where they don't want to - You cannot be everywhere at once target aces and kings if you can. To create a opportunities for bursts of movement through the left, right or centre of the board that your opponent cannot catch.

4) Defence first - Having more cards and only committing to attacks that give you advantage will win the game. Solo sprints with an ace can be stopped by an 8 moving 4 pieces a turn and closing ground quickly.

5) Plan how you win and give your pieces jobs - I e this 8 is hunting down this ace, this 9 is defending against this ace, this 7 is hunting down this Jack, so that I can sprint to the end zone with this king.

If anyone else has any thoughts, or wants a game to show how they approach things it would be good to learn and share.
