Exactly - it has been a tradition in online boardgames for at least 20 years. It might feel "robotic", but a lot of politeness - such as please, thank you and so on might also be called "robotic". Still, it's polite.

I must admit, the two-letter “gg” always feels like absolutely the lowest-possible-effort, most desultory way of acknowledging the end of the game. I mean, it’s better than absolutely nothing, but that’s about all.

I feel the same way... It's so not sincere. You play sometimes an hour with people you didn't even salute and if you win (99%of the time it's only winner) you say gg at the end to show off... I so wish I could definitely turn off chat...

It's a robotic ugliness and I don't think it is a real and honest appreciation. Just vomit. It would be easy to choose one of the prepared statements (with real words) instead.

What do you think?
Your life must be insanely blessed that this is something you have the need to complain about.... I have far worse things in life to worry about than this. Someone saying GG is just good sportsmanship. When I am playing hockey/baseball/bowling, or heck, a board game with my kids, it always ends with "Good game". Win or lose. Common decency.

I think the Catan pool of players is so different compared to the other games in BGA. There's so much pent up toxicity (both real and imagined). LOL

There's a difference between "gg" and "Good game!" (which, by the way, requires fewer clicks or keyboard actions). In my opinion, the former is robotic and ugly; the latter is nice.

Not everyone is playing with a keyboard.

It's also less taps with a finger.
