What happens when your opponent in an Arena game stops playing, is running out of time, and you end the game: is this still considered a "normal" victory and you're getting points for Arena? In other words: does a win due to time count or doesn't count for scoring in Arena?

Re: Arena Points and Winning by Time
Thanks for sharing that part of the FAQ. Unfortunately, it does not answer my question. I don't want to understand what happens at the end of the season. What I try to understand is this: My opponent is out of time now. So I can end the game and be the winner. In the FAQs I find the information how Elo-points are awarded in this situation. (https://en.boardgamearena.com/faq?ancho ... notplaying) However, I don't know how this translates to scoring points for the Arena ranking. If you can provide me with an explanation (or a link) that would be fantastic.

I'm afraid you're out of luck there. Many edge cases like this are simply not documented in any official way. Heck. Even things that are nowhere near edge cases (like all round robin tournament games starting simultaneous) aren't officially documented. It would be reasonable to think that EAS (arena Elo) is handled the same way regular Elo is handled:
But I don't think that's confirmed anywhere. Also, it doesn't tell you how games that don't advance progression work, i.e., the progression counter is always at 0%. I can't recall expelling anyone or being expelled from an Arena or regular game that did not record progression, so I can't directly confirm it either way.Game abandonment: when a player quits or is expelled, the ELO gain for the opponent(s) is proportional to the game's progress at that point.
The medals/shields for Arena level shouldn't be affected though, because those don't depend on relative EAS, only on relative Arena levels.
Ed.: OK. I can confirm that non-elite medals/shields work normally when someone is expelled, even for a 0% progression game. I looked for a game from the elite tier to see how EAS is affected, but after an exhaustive search I could not find one example.

@Meeplelowda
Thanks for the comprehensive answer!
Sharing my own experience now: I ended the game, got the victory assigned, and received full arena points. Our game was basically done before that (my oppenent had just one move left). Maybe if it happens earlier you're getting fewer points.

You always get full arena points if someone is eliminated from the game, even if not a single move has been made.Gaukli wrote: ↑25 December 2025, 08:06 @Meeplelowda

For example, in this game my opponent quit the game after my first move and i got all points (my arena elo was 1500): https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=743756846

Your arena score isn’t visible because you’re not yet Elite. How do you know you got all the points as if you’d won by playing to completion?Andrei3009 wrote: ↑26 December 2025, 03:01 You always get full arena points if someone is eliminated from the game, even if not a single move has been made.

My bad,I should have described everything in more detail. The rating change is calculated using the following formula:BarnardsStar wrote: ↑26 December 2025, 04:38Your arena score isn’t visible because you’re not yet Elite. For example, in this game my opponent quit the game after my first move and i got all points (my arena elo was 1500): https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=743756846
rating change = K(S-E) , where K is a constant coefficient (K=40 in the arena), S is the result of the game (S=1 means a win, S=0.5 a draw, S=0 a loss), E is calculated as follows depending on the difference Δ between you and the opponent's rating (in my case, Δ=1574-1500=74)
E=1/(1+10^(Δ/400))~0.395
Therefore, the rating change should be 40(1-0.395)=24.19, which is rounded up by bga to 24. Considering that the opponent should lose exactly the same amount of arena rating (24) as I should get, it all fits together
I've often done such calculations so I can roughly figure out how much I'm going to get without using formulas.

Did I miss something? That proves that your opponent lost the "expected" points, not that you won them.Andrei3009 wrote: ↑26 December 2025, 06:17 Considering that the opponent should lose exactly the same amount of arena rating (24) as I should get, it all fits together
As you see in the elo change, the quitter loses the full amount, plus a penalty, but you didn't win any elo due to the 0% progression. How do you know it was not the same for the Arena points?
