Turn based games do they ever finish

Post by Bigcuban1983 »

Hello again everyone,

Here is another question I have for you all. So far I’ve joined many turn based games and seems someone always eventually leaves the game. Do turn based games ever truly finish or is this the norm with them?

It likely largely depends on the number of players. You say "someone" eventually leaves the game, which leads me to believe you're talking about a 3+ player game. The more other human beings involved, the greater the chance that at least one of them is going to flake. The only way to really answer whether it is "the norm" without simply relying on a bunch of anecdotes would be to systematically evaluate a representative sample of games to see how many are completed according to the rules instead of by someone quitting or being expelled after running out of time.

Try 1v1 games if you wanna play turn based. With many players involved there is often someone who doesn't play fast enough (or at all) to finish. In 1v1 at least you get the win if the opponent does so, opposed to the random outcomes you get in games with more people which is especially bad in tournaments.

Sounds good. Thanks so much. Yes I had been playing 3-4 player games. I recently joined a 1 v1 and yes I agree it’s been much different

I play only 4-player games, and most are turn-based. I have hardly ever experienced someone leaving for no apparent reason. Timing out is even more rare as that only happens if the one of other players decides to kick you out for going over-time, and, since it's turn-based, nobody is all that uptight about it.

I actually find it happens more often in real-time games, that someone might flake, or have an issue where they can't stay at the game for the whole time, or takes too long and gets booted. Yes, involving more people increases the chances something like that will happen, but I don't like to play 2-player games, as I just can't get used to only being able to use one of the double tracks. So I play 4-player, but then again, I haven't had that much frustration due to drop-outs.

So yes, in my experience, in happens all the time that turn-based games are played to completion!
