Differences between languages

Post by Phoxtrot »

In my French+Dutch version of the game, I have 196 words.

FR: Corse (Corsica) NL: Frankrijk (France)
FR : Bretagne (Brittany) NL= Noordpool (North Pole)
FR: Paris NL= Amsterdam

Those are the major differences I saw between FR and NL in my bilingual version of the game.
I'm a bit surprised that we have Corsica in the English version.

There are also many more subtle differences :
(And I certainly miss many because my Dutch is limited)
FR: Pacifique (meaning Pacific ocean but also Peaceful) NL: stille oceaan (Pacific Ocean)
FR: Fête (party, but only in the sense of a fun gathering) NL: Partij (Party)
FR: Polémique (Polemic) NL: Debat
FR: Crime NL: Misdaad (here it more a question of nuance between Belgium's NL and Netherlands NL)
FR: Profiter (to profit, to enjoy, but also "profiter de qqn" : to abuse of someone's generosity ) NL : Winst (Gain)
FR: Complicité (Affinity but also complicity in the judicial sense) NL: Affiniteit
FR: Cinéma (Cinema (the art), but also the place where films are shown) NL: Film
FR: Foyer (your home but also the fireplace and the fire in the fireplace and the starting place of a revolt and... and...) NL: Thuis (at home)
FR: Tricher (to cheat) NL: Bedrog (deceit)
FR: Far-West NL: Cowboy

And many others
