Whoa, this looks like a typical BGA thing to do. Make an ambiguous disclaimer in bright red without explanation. And probably it has no immediate consequence.

A good thing to do would be a forum post explaining what it means, why it is, and in what time can we expect consequences.

I guess it just means that bugs are not followed up anymore and if they make changes to BGA, they don't care if old 7Wonders breaks.

Not sure I'm following. Is this (https://boardgamearena.com/group?id=2140221) the kind of post you would hope for?

Thanks for sharing, yes, kind of what I was looking for. I was falsely assuming that you can still play the old version, given you can still choose the option on the 7Wonders game screen, and people reported you can still play it. I haven't recoginzed how old these reports are and how old this entire thread is. Meh, my bad.

I have to say though, I find the reason they give hillarious BS. "We decided to focus exclusively on the new edition, which offers a more enjoyable gaming experience." Seriously? Since when does BGA decide which game versions are the most fun for everyone? BGA gives a home to the oddest of games, which I really like. Many better or worse niche games find their place but beloved old 7Wonders is decided to be not fun anymore. That's totally against usual BGA principle.

I speculate that the real reason is either a corporate one (the publisher doesn't want the old version lurking around anymore) or it is a technical one (the effort to maintain this would be too high because of whatever technical developments). Both are valid and ok reasons.

I can only assume that you are trolling, since you are repeating yourself without giving any argument and praising someone that also didn't really give any argument.
I can do that too : the new edition is far better, no doubt about it !

Wow, we both created intelligence.

More seriously, how can you think that the old wonders are better balanced ? Those pesky double grey costs make some A-sides absolute trash. Some first stages can be built first turn in some setups, which makes no sense given what the wonders are about. Blue cards from ages 1 and 2 are way too weak, both in terms of their raw power and the chains. Red at 5+ players is way too fragile. Strategist's guild is completely overpowered, especially at 3p. And I'm sorry but the game is now very ugly (it wasn't in 2010, but graphics have made so much progress since then !).

All of these issues are completely gone in the new edition : costs rebalanced (with some mistakes, Hali-night too strong, Alex-night too weak, but less problems than in the original game imo), blue boosts, ludus introduced, decorators instead of strategist's, cleaner card/board design... If you care about game design more than about your nostalgia, I really don't see how old edition could be better in almost any way. It's still 7 wonders, so it's wonderful, and to this day still very playable. But as soon as I tried new edition, I just knew I found it better in every way.

About the expansions, have you tried Edifice ? You really should. You may even use it with old edition without any issue.

The Edifice is horrible for anyone considering serious play. It is way too random and gives already strong wonders an even bigger advantage. Any game that strives to have a competitive edge cannot have such randomness in it.

On topic:
The new version is streamlined better, but that doesn't mean the old one was useless. From a player's point of view removing content is bad.

You obviously didn't play much Edifice. In my (rather extensive) experience, it improves the balance between wonders, reinforces all day sides, and create a lot more room for creative gameplay, with much less randomness, at least at 3 players (the best setting). Hali night, for instance, often incentivised to go slow on the wonder stages, is weakened. So is Baby night. They are still strong, but I really think you're wrong.

Also you seem to imply that "serious" 7 wonders is not about huge randomness in some setups. For someone of your level, I find that very surprising. I assure you that, at the very least, Edifice doesn't make things worse. We're not talking about casual bullshitty expansions like leaders/cities.

On your second point, I agree and I already said so previously.
