The most useful updates to tournaments would be:

1) Massive karma loss for players who go over time and cause tournament games to not run to completion. The site gives hefty karma loss for going over time in a normal game, which affects only the players of that game, but tiny karma loss to those who go over time in a tournament game, which can affect hundreds of players. It should be the other way around. Ideally, those karma losses should rise with subsequent infractions and ultimately result in a permanent ban from joining tournaments.

2) Bring back the "tournaments" tab on games so that players can see their current position and the tournament settings easily.

Coming soon! (According to a comment posted at https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=153554 by a BGA admin.)

The 60 and 90 day option for round length in tournaments is now there. The 45 day option must have got lost in the post :P.

Not sure when this was updated, but I noticed that tournaments listed on the game page are now purely sorted based on start time rather than a combination of XP and start time. This is a huge QOL fix for getting tournaments going. This eliminates my main gripe with having so many tournaments created for in advance, which clogged up the tournament list and blocked new ones from being seen.

No need to mass invite people to reach 10+ players for visibility. However, for people joining remember to always read the settings first because there is no filter for reasonable settings.

Hello,
I just noticed the new update regarding tournaments.
Is it still possible to invite players to tournaments? I can't find the option anymore.

Having 60 and 90 days is an alright change. Personally I think 90 is actually too much, there's no situation I can see myself ever using it and there actually is a concern that tournaments could last for years with that timescale.
But "45 days" would be a lot more useful. Most games that I was having trouble finishing at 30 days (like Terra Mystica and Skull King) that have around 60 turns/player and 4+ players, we usually made it -almost- to the end of the game, but not quite. 45 days would be the perfect timescale to allow those games to finish at a relaxed pace. For now, I'm using 60, but please consider replacing 90 with 45.

Bumping this since we got a huge round of tournament updates including some requested here.

We got an updated general tournament page system. Love it or hate it there is effort being made to make it easier to view tournaments and devs are putting time into regular updates so please by nice and appreciative even if it isn't perfect.

We go the typewriter, serpentine, random options for group stage setups which was a high demand request because it equalizes skill across groups better. Likewise we got those options for multiplayer elimination matchmaking which was a surprise, but more options is appreciated.

Since they adjusted Group Stage 2 days ago I'm hoping for the Allow 1 Group thing to get updated.

It's NOT easier. Not even debatable. See the many posts about it.

It was not broken to begin with but someone pushed to change it I assume and they trashed it.

It is significantly harder to try to use on both mobile and desktop. As such, I have not signed up for another tournament and I've noticed a monthly tournament creator for two games that I used to join also hasn't created any new ones since the change. (It's a pain to use, but I still checked out of curiosity.)

Based on the many posts on the topic, I doubt we are the only ones sitting out. If they have internal stats, I am sure they will show that the changes have killed the volume of tournament play.

But in both cases the default is "typewriter", which should not be an option at all! At least, I cannot think of any legitimate reason that a tournament would be set up using the typewriter method. The two options should be serpentine and random, as proposed in the official report: https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=209802

Defaults are important, especially for something like this where it might take a few minutes to figure out what the option is even about. I don't have a preference between whether the default is "random" or "serpentine". But it should not be "typewriter" which always results in unbalanced groups.
