Solo play

Post by larryavisbrown »

Suggestion: I play as two using the hot seat option. I ignore the assassin's role if one is assigned, and assume that both players are witnesses. The goal is to get both characters to reach the end alive. Even though I know both hands and do not have to fear betrayal, the game is still very hard to beat, probably 1 out of 10 times, if I'm lucky.

Maybe I can help. My partner and I almost always win, and that is with two extra difficulties:

1) We have to be cautious of an assassin; and cannot be sure the other person is being truthful, and
2) we Use the extra difficulty of playing Under the Rose.

Without those restrictions, it's (for us) trivially easy to win. We have the deck memorized, and without the Under the Rose expansion, all we need to do is get to the end. We stay on Yellow 1s as much as possible, and rush through the map when ready using Duck, Bus tickets, Badger, Reckless Abandon, and conserved energy.

Save healing cards for last gasps. Use conserved energy to trade cards that the other Player needs.

That's the same thing that I do with beginner players. We play ignoring the roles, to focus on card effects, combos and most common strategies.

I won't comment the guy who pretends he always wins. His statement Is a nonsense even before thinking about probabilities. He probably ignores the "cards same suit" rule, otherwise he would have thought twice before writing his funny dream.

I know the rules of the game. We almost always win. It's not that difficult.

We also play Under the Rose, which makes it substantially more difficult and still win most of the time. Unless one of us is an assassin, of course.

On BGA, there is no Under the Rose expansion. All that is needed is to get both players to the end of the road, which just isn't all that difficult if you're able to figure out that both players are witnesses.

What's nonsense is this post.

The OP said he only plays if both players are witnesses, and he plays both players.

How is that in any way difficult to win? All cards that might be needed to defend against an assassin can be discarded safely, making it easier to use conserved energy. The Gun can safely be passed back and forth. Two "call in a hit" cards are available. whoever can most safely take wounds can do so without fear of being attacked by "The Killer" or by a sneaky assassin play. Heal cards can be put in the correct hand without fear of consequences. Ricochet can be used to dump all the wounds on one player. Sneakers, Duck, and reckless abandon and Repetition can be used for key movement. Safehouse can be used, since there is no reason to take "The Killer". Stay on the Yellow ones to avoid taking heavy damage from events. Use teamwork to nullify the worst events. Get Mrs. Rocco early. Get the ally that enables looking at 2 events cards every other turn. Use Streetlight healer after unloading all the key cards for a big heal and a new hand of cards.

Use a Grenade when the damage is going to be worse than the grenade damage. Use Strength in Numbers.

After having played dozens of times and knowing the deck, it's just not difficult to win if only playing as two witnesses.

I succeeded on my first try.

Zero last gasps used. Only 2 heal cards were used, one of which was Amalgam just to trade wounds.

Despite any number of things that went wrong:

1) Never received a bus ticket
2) Misclicked Badger into discards instead of the junk card I meant to discard.
3) Messed up Safe House, putting myself on a Yellow 3 instead of 1, taking 2 extra wounds.
4) No phones on the final 7 roads, so both Call in a hit cards were discarded
5) Lost medicine to an ambush
6) Cannot always see both players' cards, so I missed seeing what card was lost to the ambush and had to deal with the next event not knowing which card was missing.
7) Did not get whistling wind.
8) Did not get Reckless abandon.
9) I received Night owl after both players were in the Dark.

It's really not difficult IF it is known that both players are witnesses, which is the situation being discussed here.

But yeah, I'm living in an improbable fantasy world. Okay.

But I guess you think I overrided the game code here and ignored the rules about only being able to play the same suit.

It's a pity I haven't seen your funny answer until now. I have told YOU that your message was a nonsense, but you understood i was critic about Larryavisbrown' message. Funny indeed.
BTW thank you for sharing all those obvious strategies. Why didn't you add "look at your cards before playing them"? It would have had the same level of help. Now tell me, champion: do you think it's so easy to collect Edwards and Rocco? Do you think it's so easy to always have sins when needed? Do you think it's so easy to find the gun? Do you think it's so easy to find safe house in the roads of the night?
You are funny man, believe me. You are very funny.

I saw you wrote two different messages to answer me. Again, it shows your ability. No problem, i will read the second message and answer it, too.

Hey honey, I thought you were referring to a live game, as you talked about playing with your wife. That's why I thought you might have forgotten about the "same suit" rule. Don't worry, i never had the suspect you were good with computers.
And anyway, why would a married couple play the online version? Don't you two live in the same house?

It would be nice to check if it really was your first time. But don't worry, it's not important actually. Because, you know, winning the first time doesn't automatically mean you will always win. That's not how logic works. I'm not surprised you didn't know it.

Last question: so your wife and you played knowing you were both witnesses? It seemed you were the expert player who loved to play with role cards... But Indeed you can't be expert, reading to all the mistakes you confessed...

I am actually very good with computers.

I do volunteer work here at BGA helping maintain a very popular game.

My partner and I often played the live version - and at times, when one of us was traveling ,we played the online version. It's none of your business though.

And, NO , we did NOT play knowing we were both witnesses. We play by the rules. But when we were both witnesses, we won most of the time. Even though we also had to guard against a possible assassin.

You, on the other hand, said I must be lying when I said that two known witnesses can win almost every time - even though I provide a link to the game I played when you said that, and I won EASILY.

My partner and I, in real life, play with "under the rose", which makes it a lot harder - and we still win.

Remember, the original post in this thread was, "I only play when both players are witnesses and we still cannot win."

Well, I have no trouble winning under those conditions - and generally have no trouble winning even without that added cheat/houserule.

Don't worry, I never asked for the story of your life. I couldn't care less. Still I notice that, despite being able with computers, your messages have a poor layout in terms of spaces at the beginning of your sentences. Maybe you never used an unknown program called Word. Probably you will tell me you use a voice app, and it's all its fault. But I don't care.

Sweety, you still don't understand that providing ONE log of ONE won match doesn't prove you almost always win. You continue to be funny.
