Bad sportsmanship...kicking players out on winning turns

The issue is that there are players who know they are going to lose and kick players out that are seconds away from winning to avoid the loss.

The issue is that there are players who take more time than allowed and still think they're winning.

This is the answer right there.

If you can't win in the allotted time, you both didnt, and don't deserve to win.

"I was racing at Nascar, and I would have WON TOO! But I was 10 seconds behind first place! If they gave me 11 extra seconds I would have won! Cheaters!!"

Playing within the time allotment is part of the game.
Don't play games in speeds that you can't do is the lesson to be learned here.

I have several times been kicked out because I didn't watch the clock. Sometimes it was just seconds before I would have won the game, which made me furious because of my own stupidity.

As mentioned earlier, making a move within the allotted time is part of the game - even, if not especially, when you have nine points.

What i see in this thread is a lot of players trying to justify their bad sportsmanship and very few people acknowledging this is a problem. This doesn't reflect well on the community.

You're right. Seeing people trying to justify going over their time limit is getting old.

If the only time I had run out of time in the entire game was on the last / winning move and I was booted then yeah id feel hard done by. But if it was constant throughout the game then that is different.
The one thing that bugs me though is there is no benefit from going quick early on since your total time is still capped.
So sometimes you have games where players take up their entire time allotment on the early moves even though at that stage there is very little going on. but if you complete your move in a fast game within 10 seconds, you don't get any benefit of that.
i've had some games where I hit 0:00 once but at the end of the game when it shows total time taken other players have used up far more time than you have overall.

Not sure if anyone else has noticed it though that there are issues with the timer skipping. ie not moving in 1 second increments. I thought I had noticed it before but wasn't sure so I screen recorded part of a game and sure enough the timer moved 14 seconds in one go on one particular move. Another time it moved 10 seconds when the only move I had to make was select a card from aqua duct on another players turn. and I don't mean i spent 10 seconds thinking about it... i mean you literally see the timer skip 10 seconds lower.

It isn’t a winning turn if a player is past their allotted time. You should just immediately click pass until the time is back above 0:00. If anything, this site is too generous. It should be an automatic loss the second the clock runs out, just like chess, basketball and every other timed competitive game.

There's already a 20 second grace period after you run out of time, before you can be kicked out. If you have connection problems or need a lot of thinking time, then just stick to slower time controls. Don't sign up for fast games if you're not going to play fast.

I understand this. Do you think it's right for a player to kick out another player as soon as they can on the final winning turn of the game while they can see he/she is making a move, just to avoid a loss?

Also, my proposed one minute grace period is a "once off" ability for a player to extend time on a complex turn without having to increase the time of the game by moving to slow or normal just to compensate for those rare moments.
