It happens again and again, people join games with faster time controls than they can actually manage, and the timer runs out. I see it mostly playing turn based, so this is what I will focus on, but I assume that it can also be an issue for live games.
I think the site should track approximately how fast players are, and prevent them from joining anything faster than 1 move/day, unless they have demonstrated being plenty fast for faster timing.
Not only should this drastically reduce the number of people running out of time, it should also ensure that once you play on a faster time control there is low chance of ending up playing against someone who only barely plays fast enough for the timer.
