This is one of those things that varies between groups, but I would say BGA generally biases toward assuming playable clue versus longer finesse. HG is the opposite, as I understand it, you'd have to assume this could be either 3R or 3Y and delay/discard until that clarifies itself.
This statement is wrong — in fact, it’s almost the opposite.
On BGA, as long as a bluff has not been revealed, we are supposed to assume the clue receiver can see all the connecting card to the clued card thus it is a finesse, otherwise a second blind play would be expected.
In contrast, in HGroup, it is quite common to have convention where a bluff only lasts for a single card and then simply stops (for example the 3 bluff).
So in the situation above, the upper player sees y1 marked and y2 in slot 1 of the player on left, and that player prioritizes playing Yellow 1. From that, they can safely assume their own 3 is Yellow. He should not try to play his 3 as red becasue otherwise the y2 cannot be clearly known any more.
And as long as the y3 not bombed as r3, the player on left can also be sure that he has y2 on finesse position.
Moreover, if the chop y1 is not 100% known, that makes it even more certain that their 3 should be Yellow.
