I'm less concerned about getting booted for running out of time when I am about to win (as this is generally my own fault), and more concerned about when other people quit or boot a 3rd party when I am about to win. This has happened to me several times, and while I don't get a Karma penalty, I do get the ELO penalty of lost points since I end up in a 3-way tie for first instead of winning outright, often giving me negligible points for the win.

This happens from time to time and makes it difficult for a strong player to maintain their points, since we lose more points than we gain. This is especially annoying when I have a big lead, say 9pts vs 6,5,and 3pts and one of the players quits, and I get the same result and often earn less points than the other two "winners". In addition, this is sometimes the result of collusion as well.

I would prefer to see the ELO points allocated based on two things:
1. The % of game completed
2. The position of the player

So, if I am in 1st place with 80% of the game completed, I should get 80% of the ELO points I would have gotten for winning if the game had finished. I realize the win is not a sure thing, but that's why you only get prorated points. This makes sense to me since this would generally be your expected probability of winning in most situations.

This is not a perfect solution, but at least it does not penalize the non-offending players.

Exactly.
