Exmoor expansion announced

Post by Johnnie Llama »

55 new cards, a brand-new effect where you test your luck drawing cards from the top of the pile, 5 new caves.

I wonder if this will come to BGA. Support for the Forest Shuffle series seems strong so my guess is yes.

I remember when some complained that the bird strategy was weaker, and while it is in dartmoor, it’s still fairly balanced with all the other strategies. And that’s the point, we want a game where everyone can pick a different strategy and all potentially win, you can’t do that in the original, if everyone picks a different strategy in the original the player who goes deer strategy always wins. So in reality the bird strategy is still strong, because you can still win focusing on birds and the cards that work with birds. That said one of the new cards is like the blanket bog, except it doubles the points of the birds on it. Now sure since most of the birds have a max scoring of 10 it’s not going to be as powerful as the blanket bog. However if you are also working on bats or dragonflies their are 2 birds who could potentially score more than 10 points, perhaps maybe scoring 32 points or more thanks to the new moor. And we haven’t seen all the new cards, so there could be a new bird that can score higher than 10 points.

Still it’s not like it’s just gonna make birds stronger, I saw a shrub for reptiles. A new dragonfly of course. Some new rodents, another bird that scores on rodents. And one of the rodents is the dormouse, I’m sure it’s basically the same as the original, works with bats. And like I said we haven’t seen everything new yet, only 14 of the cards have been revealed. 4 of which were moors and one a shrub. So only 9 animals and plants were revealed.

The only question is it 55 new types of cards or 55 cards? Because I did the math, and if you look at the amount of each revealed card the number goes to like 48 or 49 leaving only room for 2 unrevealed cards.

Yeah it's 55 cards, I hope they add a new and strong reptile cause the reptile strat is already a bit lacking and extending the card pool with the expansion will make the warty newt too unreliable.
also this new power type (push your luck thing) seems quit OP, especially the one that let's you play 3 INSECTS FOR FREE ! how is this even possible.

You can see most of the new cards on BBG. Thought I’d repost the information again, make it easier to read.

There’s a new moor (among others) high coastal heath that doubles scoring for birds placed on it. Same idea as blanket bog.

There’s a new shrub for reptiles.

A new bat and a new dragonfly.

And a new dormouse that scores the same way the original dormouse did.

A new rodent that scores points per bird you have, which can go on top of a tree, shrub or moor.

A pony.

Several new plants

And the peregrine falcon that lets you play rodents after you play it and scores on rodents.

I’m not sure if that’s everything but there might be a couple more that haven’t been shown yet.

On spiele lookout website, we have access to the rule book. Even though pictures are highy pixelated we can see a new frog that uses the new effect and a bird that scores based on how many cards from the new expansion you have in play. The rulebook also mentions 2 types of poney added with the expansion : the "pony foal" : the one we see on BGG and the "exmoor poney" : no info on this one other than it's name.

What I don't really like about the high peak is that it will be broken for barn owl but won't help making underpowered bird cards viable : cuckoo and treecreeper basically that can't even go in moors, making these cards even worth than they already are...

LOVE the expansion! I think it's made the game more fun! Should definitely be added to the Arena for next season
