Glazed Pavilion purple side is completely unplayable

Post by spaceman256 »

The purple board from the Glazed Pavilion expansion currently does not work correctly at all.

First of all, the 1- and 3-cost spaces of the outer stars are swapped. The display shows the correct numbers but the actual tile cost of the spaces has not been implemented correctly. The 3-cost spaces will only spend 1 tile. Likewise, the 1-cost spaces will spend 3 tiles if you have that many of the relevant color. You have to pay close attention to how many of your tiles disappear when you place one to notice this, but it can be easily verified by undoing and re-doing the turn.

I thought this was the only issue, but I have just now taken a turn where I tried to place a tile on the 3-cost orange space in the center star, by spending 2 orange and 1 wild blue. Instead, what happened was I spent a single blue tile and placed it on the orange space.

I know this expansion is still in Alpha, but this is total nonsense. I'll submit a proper bug report when this game is over (my opponent declined the offer to abandon) but I wanted to make a post about this because I'm amazed it's not being talked about at all. This is basically unplayable in its current state.

I'm not trying to be inflammatory, just trying to bring some attention to it so it can get fixed. The other new board worked fine, as far as I could tell in one game. Keep up the great work.

If it's in alpha, it's supposed to be "not playable". It will also be a friendly game, so you can just quit without penalty, you don't need your opponent to accept to abandon.

I have to be totally honest with you. I truly, genuinely do not have a single clue what this is supposed to mean. This website is for playing board games, there is nothing here that is supposed to be "not playable".

Obviously some bugs are to be expected when something is in Alpha. In my experience playing games in Alpha on here, those bugs are usually few and far between, and easy to plan around once they're known. At worst, some games have had terribly under-developed UI's when I played them, but the game rules were still fully respected. I have always, until now, been able to play a relatively normal game when something was still in Alpha.

When I say this board is completely unplayable, what I mean is that it's not even possible to play anything resembling a normal game. You can't even properly plan a strategy because the board itself is blatantly lying to you about what will happen when you click on something. It's so bad that I do not understand why this was made publicly playable. If one person was able to find this much wrong with it in one third of a game, the dev should have been able to find these issues on their own.

I'm aware, thank you. Perhaps it was not clear that my opponent would like to continue playing (which they expressed by declining the offer to abandon). Plus, by continuing to play, I've discovered even more nonsense! My opponent was able to place a blue tile on a star that was already committed to purple (though they un-did the turn and did something else).

Games in alpha are not intended to be played for enjoyment. Alpha status is not an "early access". If you're playing an alpha game, it's because you want to test it and report bugs. If you find bugs or problems, report them (in the bug reporting system, which is what the developer will see), but there's no point in complaining that the game is unplayable.

If it happens again, can you create a bug report at the moment the game asks you to choose a color, and one of the color is one that should not be allowed? It would help me debug this case, I can't reproduce so far.

Unfortunately, this board is so bad I don't expect to be playing it very much in the near future. But I am definitely interested in helping out to get this solved. If you're interested, perhaps we can play a turn-based game together? That way I can directly point out the issues as they come up. Otherwise we're looking at at least three different bug reports to cover all these issues, since I know bug reports are supposed to be for only one bug.

At no point did the game "ask" me to choose a wrong color. In the pictured example above, I simply clicked on the orange 3-space and it immediately filled with a blue tile. It did not ask me to choose a color, since there is not supposed to be a choice there, it can only be orange. I believe the same thing happened when my opponent was able to place a blue tile on their star that's already committed to purple.

In both cases, the incorrect tile (blue) was the wild color in that round, so that probably has something to do with it.

Maybe you need to read the title of the post again? The complaining itself, was, in fact, the entire point. I'm fully aware of the bug reporting system, I made a deliberate choice to make a post about it.

I will never understand the urge to police the way other people handle themselves. You're not my mother. If you have nothing to add to the conversation, just stay out of it.
