what are your reasons to join tournoments?

for me i just feel like it would be cool to win one, top players usually don't play in them so i have a chance to at the games i am good/decent at i find it difficult to understand why players at the 100~ elo level join

I usually join a tournament to win or play with strong players in settings other than the arena. Also, many games host tournaments for experts, where it is very convenient to participate as all the games will be as close as possible.

1) Maybe they just like the tournament format and don't care if they win. What a concept!
2) It doesn't cost anything, so why does it matter what their chance of winning is (see 1)?

New achievement, trill of competition that way, to try something I almost never try. Those are reason I would join tournament. But I don't since practycly all tournaments are play by mail (TB) I can't join them. I refuse to play something that may take months to finish.

Practice for games I have just learned. Swiss format perfect for it. 5 to 20 matches usually. In tourneys you play random elo's. Much more friendly than arena. Can't avoid players. And in high luck based games. Anybody can win. Have fun. Play tourneys
