I am really ticked off with removal of Invite option.
The Link copy does not work properly in each device, messaging option.

There's no use in repeatedly replying to the developers with anger. It's clear this is an unpopular change.

I used to join and run a lot of tournaments, but it just doesn't make sense anymore. It's a shame, it was fun, but I'm just going back to normal games.

Major issue with new tournament page (multi day tournaments being incorrectly displayed)

Post by SpidyWebs »

In my opinion, there was nothing wrong with the way the tournaments were before. I joined BGA years ago but I didn't really start playing regularly until about a month ago. I thought the previous tournament creation process and summary page were well thought out and intuitive. I'm not sure why we're taking a step back.

Anyways, aside from all of the issues that others have mentioned (mainly the lack of invite option), I've noticed an issue with a multi day tournament that I created prior to the major change. The tournament is supposed to be split between two days, 3 games Saturday and 2 games Sunday. I've never tried this format and thought it was really cool that the option was offered to tournament hosts, so figured I'd give it a try.

The previous tournament page displayed this efficiently according to each person's time zone.

Now, it is showing that the entire tournament is going to end on Saturday after 3 games, even though it also shows that there are 5 matches to be played.

So when is it going to end? Are the Sunday games still going to run? I've had about 50 people register after the tournament page change and I don't think they are aware that it was going to be a 2 day tournament. I myself am not even sure if it's still going to be a 2 day tournament because the option to make a multi day tournament isn't showing up anymore. The tournament is tomorrow and I'm getting the feeling that the Sunday games are going to still happen, even though it doesn't show it, and many of the people registered for the tournament aren't even aware of it, which will probably cause them to end up with a leaver penalty. Any advice?

Hello.

First, you could post an announcement on the official tournament page to explain the process to each player.

Then, on Saturday, when the matches start in real time, you can post in the tournament chat explaining the process. All players should be online, so they should all see the message. I think.

The game scheduling option you used was always a bit buggy and not very reliable, and hence rarely used. It was probably removed for the better. I also suspect many players would have missed out on the relatively unusual schedule even in the old display (there is nothing wrong with your schedule per se, but it's just unusual so I suspect that many people might have missed the specialties of the setting).

Now what?
(1) The ending time currently displayed is an estimate, so that's nothing to rely on (and it's buggy/incorrect, too).
(2) What you can do now depends on your personal risk affinity and exploration mentality. :) You can either just let the tournament run and see what happens (even if there were penalties, that's not the end of the world) or if you feel more risk-averse and responsible to "your players" / you feel guilty, you can just abort the tournament. There is a button on the very botttom of each tournament to cancel the entire thing. That would be a harsh but very clean solution, no one has to play anything they haven't signed up for.

Serious question here - How do BGA developers work with the community to design, test, and implement new features?
The changes to Tournaments are horrible and seems to be made without any input from people who create or participate in tournaments.
The most useful information is moved to the bottom requiring a lot of scrolling, the stages/brackets windows and can only be scrolled using stupid arrows, links to the tournament in the purple "Current Tables" was removed, the list goes on and on.
All you did was introduce more clicks, more scrolling, more difficult navigation, added useless info, and removed necessary/useful info.

Can you roll back to the previous version - and try again after getting input. This version is horrible.

Part of the community was involved. There was a tester group of about 250 BGA users, I was one of them, we could test the new interface for about the last 35 days (but we could also still use the old interface). The testing already helped and I think it's a very normal procedure in web service development. The system how they collected feedback was clever and convenient.

Still, they probably have to rethink the process. First of all, testing was optional and for free and I haven't put much effort into it, not sure how many others really engaged. It might be needed put more weight on some dedicated experienced and paid testers. Second, there was no way to rate the importance of the different feedback I gave. They might have been flooded with feedback or at least they don't seem to have been able to distuingish the important feedback from the less important feedback. Third, intuitively, it feels very quick and rushed to roll this thing out after only 35 days between first release to a small tester group and full public release to the entire world, I don't understand why it needed to be released that quickly.

PLEASE NORE! WE DON'T CARE ABOUT THE "TOURNAMENT NAME" WHICH YOU ARE DISPLAYING IN LARGE FONT - INSTEAD PUT THE NAME OF THE GAME IN LARGE FONT! WHERE IS YOUR COMMON SENSE? In the new design you have the name of the game in small font and the tournament name in big font. It should be the other way around! Who wants to see "Episode 1949", "Week 4", and the like, which are useless, in large font?

The original design was clean, intuitive, and easy to do and find what you wanted. But there are too many issues in this new design. For example the tournament brackets are too large. The whole bracket should be in one page and viewed by scrolling up and down. The new design requires more and more clicks to see things. Have all info about tournaments, brackets, etc., in one long page. IT IS MUCH BETTER TO SCROLL UP AND DOWN TO SEE THINGS THAN HAVING TO KEEP CLICKING.
