Can someone explain these statistics to me?

I've played several games of Wingspan on BGA and in person, read a few strategy guides, etc. so, I feel like I have a better-than-novice understanding of the game. But I am scratching my head about some of the statistics at the end of the Playing Profile. What do Forest Bird 1-5, Grassland Bird 1-5, and Wetland Bird 1-5 represent as a player statistic? And how should the numbers be interpreted?

Each bird has a number. Those fields indicate which bird was played where. I'm not sure if migrating birds are counted when they're player or at the end of the game. For a given match, it lists the birds in play (and the site actually displays the bird names). As an average, it's useless.

If you're familiar with programming and specifically arrays, it makes more sense. It's just BGA flattening a two-dimension array (3 habitats x 5 columns) into named fields for their stats database.Instead of displaying the values as something like `board[habitat][slot]`, they broke it out into "Forest Bird 1", "Forest Bird 2", etc. It looks weird when it's presented that way, as if there is some meaning or value behind the field names, but in this context I'm pretty sure it's just a way of presenting array data in a human readable (and easy-to-log) format.

I guess you'd have to check if there are bird 6s or multiple 2s or something. If not, it's probably end of game bird.

Thank you for the answers. I still don’t understand what each number means. What does it mean to have “104.62” in Forest 1, or “895.06” in Forest 5? They clearly can’t be points scored in that space on the board. How is it possible that the least-used spaces (the fifth ones in each habitat) have larger numbers? Any guess?

It means nothing useful. It could mean that you have played bird number 100 many times and bird number 120 a few other times, or bird number 3 some times, bird number 157 some other times, and bird 246 other times... And empty slot is probably associated with a large number (maybe 1000 or 999), that's why birds 4 and 5 tend to have higher averages.

It's what bird you put in what space in that habitat. Chipping Sparrow in Forest Space 1, Hooded Warbler in Forest Space 2, etc.

The points are aggregate from all the games you played.
