I, too, like to use custom trophy pics. When I created a tournament during the preview phase I didn't think to specifically test this functionality, and it is disappointing that it is gone. A generic trophy is not special. Custom trophies are a way for a tournament host to put their personal stamp on the tournament.

From what you say here it is not clear whether you are aware that "gurus" decide the mode for the arena season, not BGA. For this issue your ire should be directed at the "gurus" who are making choices you don't agree with. Or is your proposal that gurus should not be allowed to vote on the format and instead someone at BGA should individually decide the arena format for 100s of games every season?

Regarding the arena, I meant there should be multiple arenas for the same game with different settings. Instead gurus are asked to vote for just one format as there is one arena per game.

The gurus system has its advantages and disadvantages.

Clear advantage: Actual players get to decide which rules are used for Arena.

But which players? The gurus, which are the ones who play the game the most. But therein lies the vicious cycle: players who like the current Arena rules will play more, players who don't like the current Arena rules will not play as much. So the guru selection process naturally favors the people who like the current rules, meaning the current rules are more likely to be picked again for the next season. That's a major disadvantage. It would be solved, as Meeplelowda suggested, by having different Arenas for the same game but with different settings.

There are several games I play a LOT. But I don't like certain expansions, settings, or player counts, etc. So when those rules are in Arena, I don't play Arena, which reduces my play count and makes it unlikely for me to become a guru. So the next season, the same rules get selected by the same people. I would LOVE if those games had a separate arena, say, for 2-player vs. multiplayer, or for this expansion vs. base game. I'd only play Arena for the settings I like against people who also like those settings. It would be great. But instead, people who don't like the current Arena settings sit out 3 months, hoping (often in futility) that the next season will be something they like.

In any case, I think Meeplelowda's main point was that Arena has issues and that rather than fix those issues (like the guru selection bias I mentioned above), BGA keeps saying "we don't like everything with Arena, but we're going to keep doing it" and then they pick a new part of the site to make worse. Tournaments this time, ELO last time, Games in Progress / Lobby before that, ...

There's so many bugs and suggestions that have literally thousands of votes. You'd think they would start there as inspiration for making sitewide changes to BGA. But instead they make changes that no one wants and that break things that people actually care about. See my previous post (or any of the other 100 posts by others here) for a description. (that last line is directed at BGA admins, not Mattuna)

Yes. Definitely need to be able to invite players. Also, we need to be able to set up tournaments with much less than an hour's lead time. Sometimes I have needed to do with just 5 or 10 minutes notice if I forget it's my group's tournament day. I hope you can address these issues soon Or my group may have to pause our tournament nights until you do.

Another more minor but still annoying issue: when creating a tournament, the default is set to "average players to experts". Why are Masters (ELO 700+) excluded? You have to explicitly go to an "audience limitations" button and allow them. But even after I did that and saved a draft of my tournament, it went back to the default where Masters were not allowed. I had to go back to allow them again and then immediately publish. Very buggy and for no good reason.

Also, there's no way to delete a tournament anymore? My friend created a tournament that unintentionally excluded masters because of the above defaults and they can't delete it now and replace it with a tournament with the correct ELO range. I made a test tournament too just to figure out the issue and I can't delete that one either now that someone (the master I was trying to help) signed up for it. What a mess.

That was actually Mattuna74's point (I think). I was just pointing out that their specific complaint that Arena has the wrong (in their opinion) settings is an issue with "gurus" primarily, and is only secondarily an issue with BGA in that they allow "gurus" to vote on the Arena format. The problem is that many people complain about not having the arena settings they want, but few propose specific changes to the system of how the Arena settings are decided. Although Mattuna74's suggestion seems to be multiple arenas per game with different settings, which is a non-starter.

Believe me, I also have issues with the "guru" system, starting with the fact that you don't actually have to be good at a game to become a "guru," which devalues that word a descriptor, which is why I keep putting it in quotes.

But I don't want this to derail the reason we're all in this thread.

Sorry, yes, I attributed the opinion to the wrong person. It should be Mattuna74. I misread the quote tags.

Why does BGA use the term "audience limitations"? Most people would assume that has to do with spectators. Tournament entrants are not an "audience"!

What term did the old system use? I think "player restrictions" or something like that. I would love to hear BGA's explanation for why that was changed.

When you scroll down to the very bottom of a tournament page, there is a red "Cancel" button. I think that would "erase" the tournament.
