Blocking on purpose.

Post by BrookeLynn95 »

Every single person whose sole goal is to block just to block have poor sportsmanship! I have already played with 3 different people, JUST TODAY, who did nothing but bloc, block, block. They didn't even try to complete their own routes! What is that all about?? People who play like this take the fun out of this game!

People who block on purpose, just to block and not get their cards are still poor sports! They make the game miserable 😖

The thread began in 2022, it's 16 pages long, and its latest post was in January of this year. You do know what "ad nauseam" means, right?

Of course I do! I didn't SEE 16 pages! I'm on my phone... And I wouldn't even read 16 pages of comments... I'm sure is it would be repetitive, redundant, annoying, sick of hearing reading about it .. ie: AD NAUSEUM! 🙄🙄🙄

I can agree with this statement, what you and people like you fail to understand is that the goal of the game is scoring more points than the opponent and the goal of (most of I guess?) those people you mention is not to have you have a miserable time while playing the game, it rather is to win a game in which they probably have bad tickets and don't want to lose to your long ones.

So even if I can agree on your statement, your conclusion is just wrong because the goal of most of the "blockers" you face is not to block just to block.

i agree. it's just boring. just give them a thumbs down so you avoid them in future.

(and yes - some blocking is fine, but when people just block every exit point right away with zero indicataion of where the oponent is going, it's not really playing the game. it's gaming the points.)

Yes, this I agree with, blocking every exit with the sole purpose of blocking, not working to complete a route, drives me insane. I have red thumbed down so many people I am afraid there will be no one left to play with someday LOL

Just play Europe, you will have stations and blocking is far less useful.

Blocking is one of many techniques in this game.

At least in a 4-player game, similar to "just grabbing all the 6-point routes", you are unlikely to win by adopting a strategy of primarily blocking. But it's a tool in the toolbox.

I've tried many strategies in my years of playing this game. If you go to a "primary blocking" strategy you can manage to take down one person, but you're likely to just be surpassed by the other two. You can't block everyone, unless you get very lucky and everyone depends on one critical city you've blocked off.

That said, I use blocking as a tool occasionally. If you've telegraphed your route, and especially if I can get where I'm going by taking what you clearly want, I might as well do so. This goes magnitudes more if you've left a critical segment open turn after turn while you go on and do other things.

There are certain choke points on the board, but most of the time there are easy ways around. In the few times I've tried to block someone from getting a coast to coast route, they have quickly gone around and I just waste time and train cars.

If I need to get to Miami, I will often try to take the two longer segments, as that's 25 points, plus it makes it harder for others to get in. On very rare cases where I have little else to do I might grab the 4-car pink segment as well. But how do I even know anyone WANTS to go to Miami?

Nobody is trying to make other people have a bad game. They're trying to dominate the others and have a good game themselves.
