Have others notice lots of problems with the site lagging, not refreshing, etc. lately?

Post by fatgreta1385 »

In the past week I've noticed many, many instances of this happening. For me it all happens around trying to find a game of Ark Nove, that's all I play here. Often I'll log in and the full site won't appear. I'll close my tab and try again, sometimes loads sometimes doesn't. I'll be on the game page looking for a game, occasionally hit refresh to make sure I'm seeing open tables, and the site won't reload. This has happened persistently in the past week, and never happened prior. It happens on my PC and on my iphone, on Chrome and Safari. I've cleared the cache, deleted browsing history, restarted devices, and it continues to happen regularly. I've not added any new software to either device. So I'm curious if others are having the same experiences or if I need to dig deeper into "is it me?" mode.

thanks for any feedback.

Yes! I play on my phone and sometimes I have to refresh the game for it to be my turn. Then I feel bad keeping the other person waiting because I thought they were still playing but it was actually my game being the slow one.

Yes. All day every day. Refresh over 100 times a day. About every 5 to 10 minutes. Message. Unable to connect to server. Are you connected to the internet.. usually right after I finish a real time game. Many times have close tabs and open app back up. A race to avoid penalty

Yes, all of this. It has been going on for quite a few months, though, at least.

Yes this has been affecting my games as well. The website becomes unresponsive and unavailable

Same here, I first reported the server issues I have on 23 December and the ticket is still not picked up by support. I still have to reload my page in Chrome on my phone every time I do a move (and a turn can be several moves). Even an e-mail didn't help, probably the person who handled my e-mail did not contact the technical staff who should work on it. Some users who experienced the same bug have left BGA in January. Also I now have a problem with notes in Chrome on my desktop computer, they disappear in 0,1 second so I can't even read them. Cleaning browser history and cookies, restarting my desktop and disabling my add blocker didn't solve that issue.

Instead staff of handling users bug reports staff have worked on a new a new tournament page which is worse than the previous one and they don't seem to do anything with the critics users have posted (see the 5 pages thread on the tournament forum). Some functionality like inviting users to a tournament and checking what made the difference between two users who have finished with the same number of points in a Swiss Style tournament.

So all together: don't expect much from BGA support. I liked BGA very much, but this changed because of the server issues and the weak customer support (not picking up bug reports, and I see many more bug reports not picked up).

Yes the Game that brought me to BGA has been suffering from Changes to the site and how it handles legacy games, basically they are not concerned if previous coded games work correctly or not. The Game I play Unconditional Surrender: Europe is a massive and masterful piece of work. In January I think a change caused all games to be prevented from progressing. That got fixed after a bit, but now another change has altered how "undo" of moves is handled and is causing issues again. We are not a huge group but I for one only came to BGA for this game. If it were to become non-playable I would pull my premium membership and probably not come back. I have tried a couple of other games and they just don't get my interest up. The Site is great for some people. I came here for this one game and without it there is little reason for me to stay.
I can't even voice the "bug" - The Developer has told us that our issues are due to BGA changes they can't control/alter. To update a game this complex would be beyond a volunteer status which is what they were.
BGA if your listening, Maybe test your changes on legacy games (ones that have been around say 5+ years) and make sure they are not broken by it. At least if the update breaks a game we can get warning before we start one.
We will see what happens, by May or so will have to make a decision on Supporting BGA.
