It's interesting to see how tournament registration statistics have changed with the new interface; I find it so annoying that I've stopped registering for new tournaments.

I also saw that you solved your other tournament setting problem by changing the setting a little but providing your intended tournament round scheme. https://boardgamearena.com/tournament?id=533524

It might be that most of these "multi-multi-elimination" edge cases can be solved with some thinking but of course that's annoying if it worked simpler before.
They can mostly be solved with thinking, as you point out with the Netherlands tournament, but of course it's still inconvenient, and another example of having to fight against the tournament settings. Take the Netherlands tournament you link, I obviously solved it by using 3 groups, but the reason why I want to use as few groups as possible is because of the awful matchmaking used, the so-called typewriter method, where in Round 1, table 1 will be the #1,#19, #37, #55, #73, #91, while table 18 is #18, #36, #54, #72, #90, #108, this problem gets worse the bigger your tournament, and the more groups you use by making group 1 much tougher than say group 12 (in a bigger tournament). It's another issue I've raised before, but that is why I'm trying to minimise the number of groups, to make it as fair and balanced as possible.

The logic is that you had a stronger pool of opponents if the opponents you matched made more points in the tournament. If two players are tied then the one who happened to have the stronger opponent pool should win the tie.
Thanks for clarifying, that makes more sense than what I thought!

There's far too much clicking involved when viewing brackets, especially for larger tournaments. Making them scroll-able or collapse-able would be much appreciated.

Before the recent big tournament system update, my friends and I often created private turn-based tournaments that started just 5–10 minutes after creation. We would be on a voice call together, decide to play right away, start a real-time session for 1–2 hours, and then continue in turn-based mode after the call ends.

Now, when I try to create the same kind of private tournament, I get the error: “Registration must be possible at least 1 hour before the tournament starts.”

We really don’t want to wait a full hour — we just want to play immediately with our small group (only 3–4 friends, no other people will register since it’s private and by invitation only).

Could you please explain the reason for this new restriction? Is there any way to bypass it for truly private tournaments with very few players, or is there a planned exception for this use case?

It would be great if private/invitation-only tournaments could have more flexible timing options.

2 weeks now. Barely a word from Bga. And nothing really fixed. More problems found. Tourney scene destroyed. Dont believe me. Today, maxi yathzee tourney I join every week. Always fills at 128 players. This week 60. As other tourney organizers have said. Half the attendance is gone. Maybe forver. As so many are disgusted with the update. No invites. Crushes the tourney scene. 2 weeks. No solutions when easy ones are abound. 255 posts. 3 from bga. Where is the communication?

Someone please tell me i am just having a nightmare and I will wake up from this horrible dream that just keeps getting worse. One of the worst ideas in the new update. The Recommended for you idea. And now I goto tournaments to try and join one. It was on steroids. Took up half the page. Luckily refresh took care of it . Usually was a game I never played

Tournaments need to be more prominent on game pages.

Tournaments need to be more prominent on game pages.

If the ability to invite players will not be returning, then there needs to be a remedy for the utter drop in participation we're seeing across the board. For games outside the Popular 100 especially, there is just no good way for fans of a game to know that tournaments exist for them. Any small niche game will never again gather enough players to start a tournament without messaging invite links to its playerbase (which already is more obtrusive than the previous system).

Since it seems like there's no intention of restoring that feature, players need to know that tournaments for that game even exist. Even if someone is aware of the tournaments section on BGA (a small minority of the millions of accounts), niche-game tournaments are completely buried by popular-game tournaments because of both reach and the number of registrations. The only tournaments that have not had their numbers completely deflated since this update started are those that already have 100+ registrations and are pushed using the "Recommended" feature (which is a whole other can of worms, and currently broken).

Right now the "upcoming tournaments" box it is at the very bottom of game pages, far past the point where any user would actually scroll. Moving that box up near the top on game pages would go a long way to helping this issue, and would let fans of a game (who may never have played a single tournament before) know that tournaments are an option.

Suuuuper clunky and unintuitive ui. Its as if an ai model made it with what it think we want. This is just way worse than the last ju on all fronts

This has arguably always been true that tournaments are way too hidden away. It both lacks prominence, too far down the page, and is way too smaller section. I also know some people will like this change, but I don't like the change to order purely by date rather than relevance. The problem with this change is it can lead to the tournaments being displayed being tournaments that are being avoided for a good reason (ie. bad settings), it almost needs like a thumb system to display the most relevant tournaments.

The overall point though is tournaments need to be far more prominently displayed, it's too many clicks, and too hidden away atm to find a tournament that starts in like a week.
