They are called monasteries in the 2014 English instructions for the Big Box edition I have (it has a bunch of expansions). But online I found 2006 English rules for the Big Box edition where they are called cloisters.

True, to an extent. For me, the monastery on a field has clear visual distinction between the monastery and the field.
That tile in the first post in this thread has so much red, it makes it more difficult for me to see what's happening. I also struggle against an opponent using the red meeples. I have on occasion completely missed seeing a red opponent meeple on a city tile.
