Review Guru system

Post by Helbiii »

Hi

I’ve reached elite league in 39 different games this season and I am not guru in a single game. Which mean I cannot vote for any arena format next season which seems absurd.
Even in forest shuffle where I am currently #1 in arena I am not a guru. Or in other games where I am top 10 arena and where there are very few players like ametys’s architect I am not a guru.

I understand how the guru system is made : limitation to 100 players, playing multiple games of a game to be guru, guru stays guru for at least 1 month…
An other issue i feel is that there is no arena / normal games restrictions for being a guru, which means there are players playing only normal mode that can vote for next arena format season. And I can’t make any votes in the meantime …

I know that I am not alone in this case, I know some people that are top10 arena in some very popular games like ark nova that are not even guru.

I feel the guru system should be modified, here are couple suggestions :
- limitation to player who have played at least an arena game who can be guru
- extend to more than 100 guru per game
- top 10 or top 20 arena players of a game should be guru of that game at the time of a vote for next season

This is just my feeling, feel free to give me your thoughts on this

If a player plays a game regularly, but doesn't like the current Arena format, they may skip out on Arena for that season. I suppose playing a single game isn't that much, but I have definitely skipped Arena seasons because an expansion was included that I didn't like.

The other point is that if the top % from Arena are gurus, there's a reasonable chance they will vote to keep the status quo because that's the format that suits them. I know that gurus often don't vote to change, but I suspect by including those outside Arena play, the idea is to introduce some fresh ideas.

I agree. Guru system should be more sophisticated then based on how many games you play. I like idea that gurus could also be players that often plays arena games. But not only those players. Also not only those with highest ELO. Ideally it would be combined of all that. For example TOP 5 arena are is guaranteed Guru, top 10 ELO and rest by current rules of playing frequency. *

*Proposed numbers are just to ilustrate my proposition.
