Hello everyone,
I’m the designer of Heralds of Silence, a minimalist chess variant recently added to the BGG database. The game is inspired by the movie "30 Days of Night" and offers a fresh, tense twist on chess using a single eight-sided die.
I believe it could be a great fit for BGA, and I’m writing this post in the hope of finding a volunteer developer who might be interested in bringing it to life on the platform.
I hope this game might interest you.
Simple to code, deep to play. The rules are clean and complete. The game uses only kings and pawns initially, with queens appearing through promotion. The core mechanic is neutral "Heralds" that spawn from quiet moves and move as a wave based on a d8 roll. This mechanic is easy to implement but creates rich, unpredictable tactics.
It's not "just another chess variant." It has a strong horror-survival atmosphere. The 30-move "Dawn" draw condition and the king's teleport ability give it a unique strategic arc. It's the kind of game that can find a dedicated community.
The rulebook is finalized, proofread, and illustrated with diagrams. I can provide all assets and answer any rules questions immediately. The project is non-commercial. This would be a passion project for the love of the game.
It's already a proven OTB game. Heralds of Silence isn't just an idea on paper—it has been played enthusiastically over the board by both children and adults. Hundreds of games have already been played live, and the feedback has been consistently positive. People keep coming back to it. I'm confident that an online version on BGA would find its audience right away.
I'm not a developer myself, just an enthusiast who loves designing games. I understand that volunteer time is precious, so I want to be clear: I’m not demanding or rushing anything. I’m simply putting this idea out there, hoping it might spark someone's interest.
If you're a developer looking for a compact, atmospheric, and well-defined project to contribute to BGA, perhaps Heralds of Silence could be the one.
Thank you for reading, and for all the incredible work you already do for this community.
