Thank you for the explanation. That does sound like a game mechanic I wouldn't like.

I like Prestige just fine. It completely changes how you play the game and I find it interesting. Yeah it adds some variance, but it increases the breadth of the decision space and the complexity of decisions. That's partly why BoW is my favorite format of all, and it's not close!

Yeah sometimes your opponent gets RFF, a Rebel card, you get no prestige, and they snowball into an unloseable state. Sometimes that's you. It's a card game, there's variance. Why is Prestige suddenly the "too much" variance? It's not like we reach the land of a dice game.

A lot of the complaints seem to be more about specific overtuned cards than Prestige in and of itself. Complaints I have as well, to be clear.

I think most people don't like prestige initially, especially when they face opponents who are used to it. But once you get the hang of it, it just adds another layer of depth to the game, opening up new possibilities and combinations to score and win.

Yes, some cards and combos appear very strong, but not more than others, including some that already exist in the base game - developers plus bank, for example, or IL, just to name a couple.

Prestige adds additional complexity and choice which makes the decision space more diversified, base race feels plain and boring in comparison.

Some games your opponent gets crazy lucky, sometimes you do, but over a “career” things balance out and the stronger player will take the series. This is true with and without prestige.
