That would make some sense, but as you say, you can't predict what other players are going to do. The comment though was:
OzLefty76 wrote: 09 March 2026, 06:12 It should be that if you're on 1 move every 2 days, you're fine as long as you have a move every 2 days.
Which suggests THEY (OP) are going to login every 2 days and take moves. But they didn't. Worst case, they should have made sure the email notifications that it's your turn are turned on, so they knew when their 2 days started ticking down each time.
As you say, regardless of any misunderstanding you have about how long someone else will take, one can't run out of time on these settings if one is actually logging in every two days. If instead they were only logging in within two days of when they thought their opponent's window of time would close (due to a misunderstanding), then they could easily run out of time.

I can easily see there being a misunderstanding due to the way turn-based games are described as "X moves per Y day(s)." Some people read that as EACH player MUST ALWAYS make X moves EVERY Y days (i.e., they think it's a minimum). Others read it as EACH player CAN ONLY make X moves every Y days and the next person's turn doesn't begin until Y/X days expires (i.e., they think it's a maximum, which could have been OP's confusion). In reality, it's neither of these, except for the edge case where you let your time run down to 1 second, then continue to let it run down all the way every move.

Would there perhaps be less confusion if each option was only described in the "+Ah00 per turn (maximum Bh00)" format?

I would like this! Also would need to state the initial time bank. Not sure if that is always equal to the max time bank.

One way to this would be:

Starting time bank: 24 hours.
Time added after completing a turn: 8 Hours.
Maximum time bank: 24 hours.

That's all the information that is needed. Nothing useful is gained by adding, "3 moves per day".

Copying and pasting from the BGA FAQ:

_________________________

How does the game clock work exactly?
Before playing each game, you can see two values that depend on the 'Speed' settings: the time per turn and the total amount of time per player.

When it is your turn to think, the time remaining on your clock decreases.

Regularly (usually on each 'turn'), your time allotment is increased.

If your timer goes below zero, any other player can kick you out of the game. You should be careful to NEVER be in this situation.

Some details and specific cases:
There is a maximum amount of time for each player. In general, this maximum matches the initial time amount (ie: you can never have more than the initial time).
If you get a negative clock at some point during a game, even if you are not expelled, you will get a 'clock' red spot on your reputation.
When you play a game for the first time, all your time values are doubled.
Tournaments use a completely different system ('fixed time limit'): you get an amount of time at the beginning, and there is no additional time during the game.
For turn-based games, 'X turns / day' means '24 / X' hours of additional time per move. For example, '2 turns / day' means '+12 hours per move'.

That section could probably be modified to make it less wordy and more clear.

I can confirm that His claims are correct. I had same few times. I took first game that BGA showed me and inside that game I got msg that I need play different one first (arena game rules). It doesn't happens every time but it happens. I can't get any detailed info. I'm guessing it is a typo in certain table sets, I play in many different (1 move per day, 2, 3, 4, 8, 12) and sometimes that happens.

Why would you quote me and then remove the relevant part of the quote? I had to read your response 3 times to recall what you were even responding to. I'm not trying to be rude, but I always thought the point of quoting is to provide context, which goes away if you delete the post you're quoting.

Anyway, what you're describing doesn't sound like it matches what the OP said, where "it'll prioritise games that have had turns the most recently", more like a occasional situation, where one game ends up out of order. And if you believe this happens, you can always look at your game list manually and check if there are any games that REALLY need your attention due to running low on time.

Additonally, reviewing their play history shows they're disappearing for days at a time. Even if they thought it was only necessary to log in every 4 days (opponent time plus your time) - and as I said, I don't think that's what they thought as they specifically said you should be fine "as long as you have a move every 2 days" - but not playing a move from Feb 24-Mar 1 is longer than 4 days.

Usually it means that a whole post is quoted, but the quote is too big, so it's removed or truncated.

There is an arrow, that links to a quoted post.

So, sure, truncate. I do it all the time. You did it to my post right there. OK, there's a tiny arrow (which I probably have seen before, but forgotten about), but why ask people to switch back and forth, unless you're really responding to the whole post (which generally one is not, and was not the case here)?

Well, yeah, sometimes people quote too much, sometimes they quote too little (or don't quote at all). It could be a mistake or a personal preference (reduced overhead vs immediate context). For those who are new to a thread and read it all from beginning to end reduced overhead can be better. But if we keep in mind that forums aren't meant for a real-time messaging, than it's better to provide immediate context. Anyway, the arrow is not ideal, but it helps to get missing info.

I don't really have anything useful to contribute here, I just had to jump in and say that this kind of situation, with the kind of people who will choose to spend their free time overanalyzing and debating the plausibility of hypothetical misinterpretations of online board game settings... it's the kind of thing that really makes this aspie nerd feel at home. Thank you all 🤓👍
