Zoom in/out of the map?

I use a touch pad on a laptop (PC) and am mystified by the zoom function of the map. When I click and hold a button on my touchpad the map zooms way in, but I cannot figure out how to zoom out. I assume that zooming in and out works properly with a scroll wheel on a mouse but I don't have that option (and no touch screen). Has anyone been able to zoom in/out without a touch device or scroll wheel?

It doesn't even work with a scroll wheel as of today. They really made an awful downgrade to the UI.

Did you see where the update thread says you have to hold SHIFT to use the scroll wheel?

Not sure if it was a later add-on, but now the ui contains buttons to zoom in and out.
