Unclear rule

Post by koningco »

To me the following rule of this game is not clear: "DON'T => Connect shapes that break the outline of the card underneath."

I have made a screenshot from one of my games where I would expect I could place this card with the 3 dots at the top or at the bottom (indicated with the red arrows). Maybe there would be a very small overlap with the blue triangle at the top left which makes the placement there is not allowed (but it's so small that I can barely see it on my computer screen), but also the location at the bottom is not allowed according to BGA. Can anyone explain why this is not allowed? To me it looks like it's the same as what I did with my green card on the right side of this screenshot.Maybe someone can explain this DON'T rule better if this is related.

The three dots on the card you were trying to play have to overlap the SHORT edge of another card to not break the outlines. The play on the right side of the board was legal because playing long-edge over long-edge preserved the outlines.

Maybe I'm not enough into these kind of abstract games to know what breaking the outlines means. I also played this game in real life once and if I do that again then I don't have the assistance from BGA to see which options there are. Can someone explain this clearly? So far I thought it was allowed because I was placing the same shape over the same shape, the lines on both cards are exactly the same.

The card you're playing can /only/ overlap the underneath card where the shape is. In the move you're attempting, some of the card outiside the 3-spot region also ends up on top of the underneath card, which is not allowed (it breaks the white outline of the 3-spot-sized space on the underneath card).

It's one of the "DON'Ts" examples in the manual:

I think it's wrong on two accounts:
1. The "short" rectangle is meant to overlap with a short edge: two long edges are only allowed with a long rectangle.
2. It overlaps with the triangle on the bottom card.

Hello,
It's not about covering the same shape, you have to imagine the covering shapes are transparent and the center of the card is not, you must always be able to see the cards in whole. In your exemple, as you can see above in the don'ts shown by jellby, the red line is missing, as it is not under a "transparent" shape, you cannot draw the outline of the purple card in whole.
